I needed to be able to use the virtual COM ports Windows automatically sets up in the USB ports as needed. I connected a USB-to-Serial cable and Windows found and configured a COM port easily. Unfortunately, some part of the bloatware HP sticks on the machine ties up the COM ports and no other application can use them! HP Support told me I would have to PAY them to make the COM ports work properly, so the unit is being returned. HP did accept the return request and I will be getting a full refund.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Anonymous from Pretty Mid Overall The laptop by all means gets the job done, I got it with the idea that I could get it for school and that it would do fine, which it does. One of the biggest issues was that my order was placed in late December, and it ended up getting delayed twice (2 weeks) from the original estimated ship date, though when order tracking it would go from assembled, tested, then somehow goes to not even assembled anymore? If I would've known it would get delayed 2 weeks past the original ship date, I would've upgraded a bit. My CPU, the Athlon Silver, is a very bare bones processor and it can for the most part handle everything fine. It's nothing good if you want to run a game or two aside from some old websites, and even then it struggles a bit. You can pray for good luck trying to do anything while launching simple software because multitasking is not its strong suit. Had I known I would've been delayed by 2 weeks, I would've without a doubt upgraded. Overall it isn't bad and makes itself a solid choice if you're looking for something that can absolutely crush google docs and like 8 tabs.

The thing I've been finding hardest to adapt to is the keyboard. It has the number pad on the left, which is something I'm used to, but for whatever reason it feels like the alphabet keys are crammed too far left of center. The space bar is to the left of the touch pad. My right hand was constantly hitting the wrong keys until I put a few added touch points with puffy fabric paint to keep it from drifting.

It is worth getting a few upgrades in the customization tab (12gb RAM and 256gb ssd), and the backlit keyboard was worth paying extra. If you are tech-savvy, you can open up the back replace the ssd with an alternative with more memory easily for cheap. I am no longer a student, and got this for writing and portability, but I wish I had this when I was in college. So far I have used it for writing, light gaming, and surfing the internet/streaming. It has met my needs with no issue.

Just really enjoy that it's thinner, lighter, smaller power supply, maintains a charge longer, much, much faster, better resolution, lighted keyboard, etc. All around better. And after de-bloating and bypassing Microsoft login, it has only what I want on it and nothing else.

is it a touch screen

I noticed the GPU says AMD Radeon™ Graphics, but doesn't mention the model type. Is it integrated or dedicated? Can it run middle ground games without problems? Thanks!
