don't order from HP
Got 3 emails from HP claiming this was delivered--it never was. Finally got a refund, and am now pursuing a lawsuit since the printer I ordered was not delivered on time, or at all, forcing me to pay for big last minute print shop work.

Dependable, high quality, and no warranty issues
I prefer the HP inks for a few reasons: 1) they are the least expensive part of the printing, 2) I have used bargain inks in the past only to find that they lack the vibrance of color, don't last as long, and/or stop working due to a flaw in the compatibility chip in the cartridge, and 3) if I encounter a problem with any cartridge, HP stands behind their products and it is replaced immediately. Lastly, I'm using an HP plotter that I invested a lot of money into. I will not use an off brand ink to save a few bucks when I might actually void my warranty for the plotter. Why would I? Why would you?

No, the HP 712 inks are not waterproof. Dye-based inks are water-resistant but not waterproof. They can run and smudge when more water is applied unless a mordant is added. However, dye-based inks can be printed on specially coated label material to make the print water-resistant.
