What is a care pack?

  • With HP care pack service plans you can increase the duration of your warranty, expand the coverage, and add extra protection to your HP product.
  • All consumer PCs and printers come with a standard one‐year warranty. Care packs provide an enhanced level of support and/or an extended period of coverage for your HP hardware.
  • All commercial PCs and printers come with either a one‐year or three‐year warranty. You may have the option of selecting your coverage as well during order configuration (on certain products).

How long does coverage last?

Care Packs for Consumer or Home PC and Printers

  • Care pack coverage begins the day of hardware purchase.
    • For example, if a consumer laptop is purchased on April 1, 2022, and a 3 year Care Pack is purchased on July 1, 2022, the Care Pack coverage will start on April 1, 2022 and end on April 1, 2025.

Post Warranty Plans for Consumer or Home PCs and Printers

  • Post Warranty plans provide additional coverage after your base warranty expires. Coverage begins either (1) day after base warranty expires if purchased during base warranty or (2) on purchase date if purchased after base warranty expires.
    You will get the most coverage and value if you purchase a care pack plan at the same time as your PC or printer purchase.

Monitor Coverage Plans for Consumer or Home PCs or Printers

  • For consumer desktop purchases: When a consumer desktop, consumer care pack, and consumer monitor (22" and below) are purchased together on the same order, the monitor is also covered for the length of the care pack.*

Care Packs for Commercial PC's and Printers

  • The Care Pack coverage begins on the start date of the hardware coverage warranty period and ends either upon completion of the specified number of years of service purchased; or for services with page limits or other specified usage limits, it will terminate upon the earlier of:
    • Reaching the specified page or usage limit (or page count) or
    • Completion of the specified number of years of service purchased. Page count is defined as the number of pages (printed or plain) that have passed through a printer's print engine and recorded on the test page.

Post Warranty Plans for Commercial or Business Devices

  • Coverage begins upon the later of:
    • Expiration of the original product warranty
    • Expiration of previous support coverage, or
    • The HP Care Pack purchase date, as applicable, and terminates upon completion of the specified number of years of service purchased.

When can I purchase a care pack for my HP device?

Consumer or Home Devices

  • You may purchase a Care Pack within the first year of its service life and Post‐Warranty Plans as early as 90 days prior to the warranty end date, or up to 12 months after the warranty end date.
  • As our "how long does coverage last" section states, you get the most coverage and value if you purchase a Care Pack plan at the same time as your hardware purchase.
  • To be eligible to purchase a Care Pack or a Post Warranty plan, the device must be within our reasonable opinion, in good operating condition and within its service life.

Commercial or Business Devices

  • You may purchase a Care Pack at time support product is purchased or within 90 days of product purchase.
  • Post Warranty Plans within 90 days before to 30 days after your base warranty expires.

What types of care packs are available from HP.com Store?

Consumer or Home Devices

  • Customers can choose between a Care Pack and a Post‐Warranty Plan. Care Packs provide an enhanced level of support and/or an extended period of coverage for your HP hardware and can be purchased within the first year of hardware purchase. Click here to purchase a Care Pack.

Commercial or Business Devices

  • Customers can also choose between a Care Pack and a Post Warranty Plan.
  • Care Packs can be purchased at time of sale of supported product or within 90 days purchase.
  • Post Warranty plans can be purchased no earlier than 90 days prior to expiration of the original product warranty or previously purchased HP Care Pack and no later than 30 days following expiration of the product warranty or previously purchased Care Pack. Only one Post Warranty Plan and HP Care Pack can be purchased and registered on the same product at the same time.

What is the risk free care pack program?

  • HP.com offers a risk free care pack option when an eligible 3‐year care pack plan is purchased with select consumer PCs. The PC cannot be older than 1 year at the time of Care Pack purchase.
  • Once your care pack coverage has ended, you have 90 days to submit the rebate claim to HP. The eligible product must not have had a service event from the purchase date of the care pack until the end of the care pack coverage period.
    • Phone support or chat support will not invalidate the rebate.
  • You will need to print out the rebate form at time of purchase. Ensure you keep your receipt and at the end of the care pack term, you can submit your rebate form and the receipt to receive a refund.
  • Upon meeting program requirements, you will receive a rebate check within 6‐8 weeks from the time the claim is received.

What happens after I purchase my care pack?

Consumer or Home Devices

  • For consumer or home Care Pack purchases: You will receive an order confirmation and a follow‐up email confirming registration.
  • For commercial or business PC care pack purchases: You will receive an order confirmation email after purchase and a follow‐up email confirming care pack registration.

How do I register my care pack?

  • The HP Care Pack Registration team will make every attempt to register your care pack on your behalf.
    • For care pack purchases made with the hardware, registration will occur upon hardware shipment and a registration confirmation email will be sent at that time.
    • If you purchase your care pack separately from your consumer PC or printer, you will receive an email from our Care Pack Registration Team either confirming registration or requesting further information to register your care pack.
  • If the Care Pack Team cannot register your care pack, you will receive an email requesting further information. If requested by HP via email, you may be asked to provide:
    • Care Pack proof of purchase
    • First and last name
    • Contact information
    • Device product number and serial number
      • You can utilize HP Support Assitant to find the serial number

Subscription Care Pack Basics

What is a HP subscription Care Pack and how does it work?

  • HP's subscription Care Pack is a more flexible, affordable and convenient way to ensure your HP laptop or desktop PC is protected if something were to happen to it. HP subscription Care Pack is an automatically renewing subscription that provides extended coverage beyond HP's factory warranty on select HP devices. As long as you remain an active subscriber, your device is protected. You can cancel your HP subscription Care Pack at any time. Please see your Terms of Service for terms, fees, limitations and auto renewal details for more information.

When can I purchase an HP subscription Care Pack for my HP Device?

  • HP subscription Care Packs are only available at the time of purchasing your HP laptop or desktop PC on HP.com. Available on select HP devices only.

Can I purchase an HP subscription Care Pack on a recently purchased HP device?

  • At this time you can only add an HP subscription Care Pack when you purchase your HP device on HP.com. You cannot add an HP subscription Care Pack to a previously purchased device.

Subscription Care Pack Billing and Length of Service

How long does the coverage/subscription last?

  • HP subscription Care Pack coverage begins the day your HP device is delivered. Each year your subscription will renew, and you will be billed based upon the agreed billing cycle (I.e. monthly) as outlined in your Terms of Service. HP will notify you in advance of your end of service.

Why do I need a subscription Care Pack if I already have a 1‐year factory limited warranty?

  • All HP laptops and desktops come with a 1‐year factory limited warranty. HP subscription Care Pack goes beyond the HP factory warranty and can provide additional coverages. See your Terms of Service for complete details.

When will I get billed?

  • HP subscription Care Pack coverage begins the day your HP device is delivered. Your payment amount and terms vary based on the subscription Care Pack you purchase. Prior to each billing cycling you will receive an email notifying you of an upcoming charge.

Do I have to use a credit card to purchase?

  • A credit card is required for HP's subscription Care Pack to automate billing. See your subscription Care Pack Terms and Service for details.

Can I pay with alternative banking applications like PayPal?

  • Payment via online banking applications such as PayPal is not currently available at this time.

What happens if my credit card expires or my payment declines?

  • In the event your payment fails to process, we will notify you via email to provide updated payment information. You can update your credit card on file with HP by signing in and navigating to the My Subscriptions page.
  • If payment details are not updated, or payment is not received, your subscription Care Pack may be terminated by HP.

How do I make changes to my HP subscription Care Pack?

  • You can easily update your personal information and payment details for your HP subscription Care Pack via the My Subscriptions page (sign‐in required).

How do I cancel my HP subscription Care Pack?

  • You may cancel your HP subscription Care Pack at any time via the My Subscriptions page (sign‐in required). Cancellation fees may apply. See your subscription Care Pack Terms of Service for details. You have a 30‐day window to cancel without penalty fees and changes made to your subscription must be made 48 hours in advance of the scheduled payment processing date to reflect prior to the next scheduled payment. Upon cancellation, you will no longer be charged. Depending upon the state, you may receive a refund of your subscription fee for the last billing cycle. How do I register my HP subscription Care Pack?

  • You are automatically registered upon purchase of your HP subscription Care Pack and will receive an email confirming registration. You can view your entitlement and coverage in your Subscription Care Pack Terms of Service.
