The other day it wouldn't print and I had to delete the printer from the computer and redo everything all over again which was a hassle since I was in a time crunch to get documents printed. Other than that, I have only had it installed for two weeks so I cannot give any more insight in the long run of it's performance.

The Wi Fi direct print requires internet access. Information on this is sparse and the ability of Tech Support to assist is limited - requires internet access. I have two tickets trying to get this addressed, both closed by HP Support with problem still occurring. Big issue with HP Support is that they do not understand the situation. First, I bought the printer for work. They want to do a bunch of stuff while I need to work. Time to sit on the phone with them, disconnect from chat and wait to reconnect takes up valuable time. Second all the solutions are cookie cutter or simply follow this guide - this is already not working. Third, the printer keeps printing pages and pages of guides. I have a lot of paper and ink used to print copies of what was already printed.

    The HP Smart Tank 5101 All-in-One Printer can be installed via USB direct connection to the PC. Installing the Smart App on your phone and using that to install the printer is the easier, quicker way, however.

    Is this printer eligible for instant. ink. enrolment?

    The Smart Tank units, like the Smart Tank 5101, are not eligible for Instant Ink. The ink bottles for the Smart Tank units last up to 6000 pages for the black and up to 8000 pages for the colors. You just refill the tanks with them whenever they start to run out. You can seal the bottles back up with any ink that is leftover when the tanks are full.

    I am looking at the Smart Tank 5101, It saids you can't do Duplex printing, so how would one copy on the second side for paper savings? Thanks

    Hello. Thanks for your question. The HP Smart Tank 5101 does not support automatic duplex printing, which means it cannot automatically print on both sides of the paper. To copy on the second side manually for paper savings, you would need to manually turn over the paper. The HP Smart Tank 6001 printer can print double sided documents. If you want to be able to do double sided scanning through the ADF (Auto Document Feeder) on top, we recommend looking at the HP Officejet Pro 9125e and 9135e printers.

    Thank you for your interest in the HP Smart Tank 5000. You can plug it directly to the computer with a USB A to USB B 2.0 cable. Some features will still require you use the HP Smart app to access them. It is not a good option for printing labels. This is an inkjet, and most labels will work better with a LaserJet printer. If you were to print labels using this unit, you would want to make sure the labels say compatible with an inkjet. These are the media weights, Plain paper: 16 to 24 lb; Envelopes: 20 to 24 lb; Cards: up to 110 lb; Photo paper: up to 80 lb, it can handle.
