Great printer
This was a great deal on Black Friday. The Officejet Pro 6978 is my 4th HP printer and it did not disappoint. The setup was easy and the performance is excellent. I read about people that have issues with setup but as long as you follow the exact sequence of the setup instructions the printer should not have any issues. I have never had a setup issue with my HP printers. It is the only printer I will buy.

Priced right
Bought on Black Friday sale. Have the Office Jet 6600 All-in-One but it doesn't qualify for auto ink cartridge program. No longer have access to a different color printer and expecting to do quite a bit more color printing for ministry purposes next year. Printer will pay for itself within a year from the ink cartridge savings.

Prints nicely, but not energy efficient at rest
The printer does a nice job with great colors and easy setup. However, I put a kill-a-watt meter on it and it used 4 watts of energy sitting there doing nothing. That's in contrast to my Epson that uses none. I've put this one on a power strip and will turn off the power to it when not in use. Other than the poor energy use at rest, it's a great printer.

Uses too much ink
I bought HP Office Jet Pro 6978 a month ago to replace my HP Office Pro 8600. It is smaller and lighter. It is more difficult to install and it uses too much ink. Within a short period of time I have cleaned the printhead three times. The print quality is streaky. The old one is more efficient and I did not have any problems until it died on me after 6.

Great Basic Printer
I bought this printer to use as a simple home printer for personal use at our summer home, and especially wanted a wireless model. I chose HP because our older HP6100 series which I bought probably 10 years ago is still running strong. It's amazing. At times, I do some marketing work and need to make lots of copies of letters as well as full size photo prints with photo paper. I feel this is an excellent printer for the money. It was on sale and I am surprised at its performance for the value. First, the wireless set up went very well. I am NOT technically inclined and it took me about 30 minutes although it may take others only 15-20 minutes. It's easy to use, easy to put ink in and the range of the wireless is excellent (at least for me). My laptop is upstairs where I work, and the printer is downstairs and everything runs smoothly.
I don't care about it being quiet (it's quiet enough for me). It prints a lot faster than my older HP6100 series and it's just a little noisier than the old one. I like the double-sided print feature. I have not used the fax feature but I have used all other ones and they work well.
There have been no paper jams in more than a month's use. However I agree with some other reviewers that to prevent POTENTIAL paper jams, I would change out all paper and use one type of paper at a time. For example, when I print photos, I empty the paper tray and load it only with HP Premium photo paper. My only concern with this printer is how I would be able to clear a paper jam though, since one might have to upend the printer to reach areas inside (?) But I have not had that problem.
The color photo paper copies look professional enough to me and I think the quality is very good. We get nice comments about the pictures from folks to whom we market. I think the three-ink cartridges (as opposed to two on my older unit) helps in this regard.
This model does have some fragility so just note that the paper tray and the paper catch are not of substantial plastic. Treat these areas and the top lid and cover cover with care. Children who handle this printer roughly might damage it by tugging, slamming, etc. I would teach kids and teens to handle it with care.
I did not sign up for the automatic ink replenishment. When you set up the unit, you will be asked if you want additional services like this - I said not to all of them but some who use their printer much more than I may want some of the convenience features available. But if you don't, keep by-passing during set-up.
Overall I am highly pleased with this purchase and printer and I think its a great buy. Can highly recommend, and I'm a truthful, thorough reviewer. Thanks, HP!

Great Technology
I have upgraded my old HP Printer 1420 series for the new OfficeJet Pro 6978 All-In-One/
I quictly and easely put my printer together and connected it to my Wi-Fi and all my devices. I am back to printing my stuff again from my iPhone, laptop and iPad with ease. I have been infulencing my friends in buying hp. printers.

Great printer, but. . .
Prints quickly and well, but I have been having a little trouble getting some of the features, like scanning to do what it is supposed to. I "upgraded" from an HP6600 and the 6600 was an easier printer to use. The ink is also a LOT more expensive for this printer.

Great All-in-one printer
My 6700 printer that I have had 10 years or so stopped picking up paper to feed the print so I decided to get another HP printer. It works as well as I expected an HP product would. I only buy HP printers and computers. It does everything in including faxing in color. You wouldn't want another printer. My last printer was even used in a law office for a year. This is a great value

Great Printer!!
I just bought and received this printer a couple of weeks ago. I can't stop admiring what it does! It prints super-fast! Well, faster than my previous one, the HP OfficeJet 5900. I haven't printed any photos yet, but I bet it's going to be just as good as the paper jobs. And I'm talking about printing or copying. and can do it double sided! Love it, love it, love it!!

Excellent home printer
Great home printer that functions as if it was in a business and perfect for the at-home/remote worker! I upgraded from another HP to this one and I'm so happy I chose it, great value for the money and prints extremely well. My only complaint is it isn't as easy to change the wifi network as it was on my previous HP printer. I could switch between my home network and hotspot, but that isn't an easy to do option on this printer.

Paper like the HP BrightWhite https://www.hp.com/us-en/shop/pdp/hp-bright-white-inkjet-paper-500-sht-letter-85-x-11-in 24lb is considered everyday printer paper for an inkjet unit and sits between the 16 to 28lb that the 6978 model can handle.
