Some HP printheads and ink cartridges come in packaging that is marked with an “install-by” date. Install-by dates are being removed from HP packaging, however, to avoid confusion with the more important 'Warranty Ends' date. Here are some facts about date markings on HP ink supplies products:
HP printheads and ink cartridges can be installed after the install-by date.
The Warranty Ends date, which is marked on all HP ink supplies products, indicates the period during which the product is warranted to be free from defects.
On packaging that is marked with both an Install-by and a Warranty Ends date, the Warranty Ends date is always 6 to 12 months after the install-by date.
The Warranty Ends date will continue to appear on all HP ink supplies products, but Install-by dates are being removed.
Do not worry about installing an HP printhead or ink cartridge that is past the Install-by date. As long as the Warranty Ends date has not passed, the product is covered under HP’s warranty.
HP’s warranty does not oblige HP to replace products simply because they are past the Install-by date.
However, any genuine HP ink supplies found to be defective will be replaced under warranty if the Warranty Ends date has not passed and other standard warranty conditions are met (the product has not been refilled or remanufactured, any warranted usage limits have not been passed, etc).
