It's ink. It worked. The only reason I'm leaving a review is because they KEPT SENDING email requests for me to do so - but after this, I'm blocking them, so there's little chance that I will reorder.

Not enough ink.
I’ve always been happy with HP products. The ink cartridges seem to run out quickly. And I know there is a longer lasting cartridge, But it’s just a little too pricey for 73-year-old man whose wife and him are retirees with income.

Don't buy the xl if you only print occasionally.

Hello. Thanks for your question. You cannot replace the tricolor ink cartridge with a black ink cartridge. You can use your printer in single-cartridge mode. That means you can take out the tricolor ink cartridge. And the printer will go into single cartridge mode automatically so you can print with the black ink cartridge.
