Rated 2 out of 5 by Anonymous from Disappointed in the Office Jet Pro 7740 I’ve been very disappointed in the 7740. The start up instructions stopped without mentioning that there needed to be drivers installed and I had to call my local guru for assistance. After the installation was complete I found that several things in my desktop had changed. When I tried to put 11x17 paper in the drawer I discovered that the drawer is only 14” deep. After spending an hour with an unknowledgable chat guy, after three requests to be connected with someone else, I was connected to Tech Support who finally, after another 30 minutes, mentioned the little blue button that extended the drawer to 17”. The ridiculously tiny touchscreen is meant for someone with tiny fingers and 20/20 vision, neither of which I have. I don’t like that, when there is 11x17 paper in the tray, the tray sticks out - stupid design. And, finally, the machine doesn’t have Continuous Zoom, contrary to what I was told by the HP guy who sold it to me. Tech explained that I have to make size adjustments on the computer. IMHO, a $350 machine should have this feature. I will not be recommending HP to anyone who asks my opinion - I’m quite sure that other major brands have better-made machines and honest sales people.

Rated 5 out of 5 by hillbillyp from Outstanding Customer Service and great product from HP I was shopping the online "big box" stores for a printer that did special photo printing for air photos, which are very tricky (you usually need the original photos, which are no longer available. One of the major magazines even gave a suggestion for a particular printer. I also needed a high-volume printer to do mass output. Reading the specs of the recommended printer, it could do the output but it wasn't clear it had the technical capabilities we needed. There wasn't enough information on the recommender's website. Finally, I called HP. I was surprised at how much help I received from HP! The Customer Service representative in Idaho was fantastic! She understood my highly technical issue and knew that the recommended printer would not satisfy that need. She pointed me to two alternative printers, one for each need. The best part - the two printers together would cost less than the one I was looking at it that wouldn't do both things. She even explained why the more expensive printer wouldn't do. It had other features that I didn't need that cost extra. The recommending website didn't even understand that. Thank you, HP, and thank you Mary Hildreth in Idaho for such outstanding customer service!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Fred BB from HP OfficeJet 7740 Wide-Format AIO The printer is very good and was easy to install and setup. The only issue is that the lower paper drawer remains open if you place 11x17 paper into it. The printer is made to handle that size and prints well on it but the lower paper tray does not close when that size paper is in that tray. The tray stays open about 3-4 inches which allows dust to get into the paper tray.

How does this all-in-one compare to the HP 940 that I have been using. Do the cartridges plug in the same as the 940?

Asked by: JimB13
Thank you for your question! It is uncertain what is being asked. The HP 940 are ink cartridges and not a printer. The HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 does use ink cartridges and installation is very similar to all other HP models, however. Hope this helps! If not please clarify what is being asked and resubmit the question.

I bought an HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-one printer. Can you confirm that your printers does not ship with a printer cable or cds per your product page. The Ebay merchant i brought it from is accusing me of keeping the cds and printer cable.

Asked by: darknight9669
The HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer and most if not all current HP Printers no longer ship with USB cables or with installation CDs. Most customers use wireless instead of USB cables, so to eliminate a lot of waste USB cables are no longer in the box at purchase. Also when installing the printer with a disc the most updated drivers will be downloaded at the time of installation. This is why installation CDs are no longer offered along with most new PCs no longer having CD drives.

What is thermal imaging?

Asked by: 4028 Kid
Thank you for your question! It is unclear what is meant by thermal imaging as it relates to the HP Officejet 7740 printer. If you were referring to thermal printing, then HP thermal inkjet (TIJ) printing is a non-impact printing technology that uses heat to transfer ink onto a surface. The ink cartridges in TIJ printers have heating elements that heat the ink to 300° C, which is above its boiling point. The ink expands and forms a vapor bubble, which causes the ink droplets to be ejected onto the material.

Thank you for your question! Please contact the HP Store Support Team directly for assistance with purchasing the correct Care Pack for your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740. This printer is still a current printer in the HP lineup and is still supported. Very unsure why you are getting a message about Support ending two years ago with that printer. Typically even when an HP printer is discontinued, product support will continue for 10 years after the discontinued date.
