Not user friendly.
"Link" to activate printer is only good for 2 minutes. 5 minutes would be appreciated. Cannot get the scanner to work at all. Will be taking to a shop for assistance.

First off, mine did not set up so easily. I called support, and after 4 hours he had it worse than when I started. I managed to get it set up again without support help. Every time I go to use it via my laptop, it is offline, or in error. I usually have to turn it off, then back on, then I am comfortable with it. Just like today, so we will see. Another thing, it has an email address to send items for printing, only it has yet to do so since brand new. Good thing it wasn't over $150 with a 3 year warranty and unlimited tech help. I hesitate, because tech help could not resolve my issue the first time, he would not end the call, so I had to, then I discovered he had closed my ticket. He blamed my internet provider and modem. I checked with them and it was good and up to speed. The same thing the info page says, until you go to print something after a few days. I do not have the time for another 4 to 5 hour troubleshooting phone call.

ambivalent feelings
The printer is attractive. Copies are clear although the first time I printed a page with a lot of color, the bottom part was streaked. It has worked well overall, but I am also disappointed. It took 3 tries to get it set up with my wifi - even reading the directions online that were not complete or clear. I am also disappointed that there is always a light on. There is no sleep or standby mode. I feel I am wasting energy so I turn it off and then have to go upstairs to put it back on when I want to print. I also don't like the fact that it beeps a lot. When I was scanning, there were many extraneous beeps. If I were buying a printer again, I am not sure I would buy this. I was happier with my Brother printer, but it will no longer scan to my computer because of computer upgrades. I also don't really understand how the "free ink" stuff works. I don't think I print enough to pay a monthly fee. I plan to use the system I have used previously which is to buy ink when I am running low.

Try an Instant Ink subscription free for 3 months when you activate HP+ when setting up your printer. Instant Ink offer must be activated within 7 days of installing your printer. For every page you print with HP+, HP protects or restores forests in equal measure.
HP must be able to remotely monitor (1) Your printer page count and cartridges status, and (2) Your usage of the Service, in order to ensure that You are receiving the requested Service, to prevent unauthorized use of Your account and to improve Your experience with HP products and services. Remote monitoring may include provision to HP of one or more of: page counts, types of documents printed (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, pdf, jpeg, etc.), types of devices that initiated print jobs, printer serial number, cartridge information (e.g. HP original cartridge status, and whether the cartridge was new or used at the time of its last insertion into the printer), and other similar types of metrics related to your Service as may be added by HP from time to time.

I do not have a smartphone, tablet or anything but a HP Envy m6 Sleekbook with Windows 10 (and a basic flip phone). Will I have a problem setting this printer up and printing/scanning with just my computer?

Does this printer need to be set-up initially from a CD, and with a USB cable connection? If so, does is come with the USB cable? If not, will I be able to use the one I have for my other 2 HP printers, 6310 and J6480, with this printer? Thanks

The printer must be connected via USB during the initial setup if a mobile device on your wireless network is not available. HP printers no longer come with setup disks as most current PCs no longer have disc drives and the drivers are easily downloaded from the support site. Thank you for your question!
