HP 830 battery does not charge when plugged in. Found a forum that it requires a 'power reset'. It does fix it but it's such a hassle. Battery drivers are up to date. Is there a permanent fix where I don't need to go through the slow 'power reset'?

What is the battery durability under typical device usage?

You may need to resubmit the question. Not able to determine if you mean hours of usage or number of years it may be expected to last. Standard usage is going to be 8 hours and 30 minutes of run time for the HP Long Life 3-cell, 51 Wh Li-ion.
