The Best Gaming / Workstation I Have Ever Purchased
The Omen 16 Max is one of the best computers I’ve ever owned—laptop or desktop. I have the Ultra 9 processor with Nvidia 5080 GPU, and 32 GB of RAM. What really stands out is how close it feels to a full gaming desktop in everyday use. Even with two external monitors connected, it stays smooth and responsive, with no stutters, no lag, and no drop in refresh rate. I use it for gaming on weekends and for business during the week, and it handles both without compromise. The biggest tradeoff, if you can call it that, is having more desk space because I no longer need a bulky desktop tower. Tragic, I know.
I regularly switch between using it as a standalone laptop and as a full workstation with two monitors, keyboard, and mouse, and performance stays consistent either way. That kind of flexibility is a huge plus. It’s also impressively quiet for a gaming laptop. The OLED display is bright, sharp, and easy on the eyes. And yes, the fans can get loud during intense gaming at ultra settings, but that is simply the sound of the machine doing its job. More importantly, the cooling system keeps temperatures under control and frame rates far higher than I expected.
I also appreciate the rear port layout, especially having the power connection, 2.5 GB Ethernet, and USB 3.0 in back where the cables stay out of sight. The build quality feels top-notch, and I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to install an additional SSD—it took less than five minutes. I use an HP G6 Thunderbolt 100W dock for my scanner, printer, external webcam, keyboard, and mouse while working, and it has been completely reliable. My only real complaint is not the hardware, but the bloatware HP still loads onto the system. Who is still asking for McAfee in 2026? I do like the Omen Gaming Hub app, but even that manages to squeeze in ads. I ended up installing my own copy of Windows 11 just to clean things up, which was disappointing. Still, despite that annoyance, I would absolutely give this machine top marks. It is a thoughtfully engineered, high-performance laptop from a company that clearly still knows how to build great hardware. This machine will stay relevant and powerful for years to come, making it’s hefty price tag, palatable.

Slow network connection
I am rating the laptop 2 stars for the reasons listed below. While the machine seems to be OK on CPU, memory, and display, the network connection seems to be slow
1. The laptop was a custom build, and it took 4.5 weeks from the time of the order to when it arrived at my door. I know there are supply chain issues, so this is a minor item, as I suspected it would take some time.
2. When I got the laptop, the connection speed was incredibly slow (less than 5 Mbps). I tested my old laptop using the same WIFI connection, and it ran at 200+ Mbps. I reloaded Windows a few times and reinstalled the HP drivers. I eventually got the network speed up to 150 Mbps. I am not sure what “fixed” the problem, but it is at a speed that I can live with.
3. When I called the HP support system, I got an AI support bot, who did give me an idea, but the HP support system kept hanging up on me at random times, like 20-30 minutes into the call. I had to call back into the system a few times and start over. This was the most annoying aspect of the HP support system. I was never able to get to a human person.

Quiet Quality
Top notch components. Gets hot even on cooling stand. Still cooler and quieter than the Spectre 360 that burned out after 5 years of moderate use. Much more lively after ripping out included bloatware.

HP OMEN MAX 16 Review
The HP Omen Max is a sleek, fast, and reliable gaming laptop with excellent build quality. That said, there are a few drawbacks to consider. The laptop tends to run hot, even at idle, and temperatures can reach up to 100°C during gaming. Additionally, it ships with a significant amount of bloatware, and the Omen Gaming Hub is cluttered with features most users don’t find useful. This excess content also slows the app down, making it occasionally unresponsive. There is also some concern about the long-term reliability of the liquid metal thermal solution, particularly the risk of leakage. Although my unit is only one month old, I am still considering repasting with PTM 7950.

Not What I was hopping for
Be aware that if you want to up grade the primary SSD1 by yourself you have to remove the entire heat sink that covers the cpu and gpu then clean and put new approved heat sink compound back on after you just wanted to change the ssd1, ssd2 is un unobstructed and is a peace of cake to work with

Pleased but not shocked
I've been an Alienware buyers for the past 15 years, the one I replaced was 4 years old. Of course I got upgraded everything with the new Omen Max, but to be honest, I don't see much difference in performance from my old Alienware. I work with 3D and video editing, and rending speed hasn't been improved much. Also, typing on the keyboard isn't the greatest. Keys are not smooth, and some keys, like the "g" key can be difficult.

Great Laptop…Provided It’s Kept Plugged
I’m a DJ, and like most gamer/workstation laptops , they are not made with the DJ (videos) in mind.
Very difficult to get the video from the USB-C’s to get picked up by the Nvidia GPU if not properly setup before running the software. Forget about using it unplugged or on a dock, the unit practically becomes useless. Everything freezes and or lags, BIG TIME!
Hardware issues I have include the up/down arrow keys being half the size of the other keys and the lack of illumination to the mouse pad. My setups are typically under low to no light areas, and for having so much other illumination on the unit, it is very difficult to see anything or go off of touch to do anything on the pad.

Omen max 16 not worth it
This laptop has frequent game crashes and stuttering issues in games I suspect due to the gaming hub over lay conflicting with other services or monitoring services or back ground services game crashes when you use msi after burner and you are forced to use omen gaming hub otherwise can’t change personage or make tweaks should have bought legion 7i for a lil more money

Best gaming laptop for running Revit.
We have been using Alienware gaming laptops for running Revit at our architecture firm for years until a batch we bought were problematic. Our IT group suggested we try the HP Omen. We did, and we won't look back. It appears that the processors and graphics cards are more robust and can handle the larger Revit models. Thank you HP.

Great specs, but disappointing at times.
Pros: Good value for money specification-wise, premium design, great cooling system.
Cons: Slow when switching between internal and dedicated GPUs. Also freezes and randomly shuts down sometimes when under heavy load from gaming.
Overall, it's ok but I was expecting seamless operation for the price. I guess it was too much to ask.

Horrible thermals (high temps at low wattages), Power button malfunctioning, thermal throttling, ad-filled gaming hub, horrendous customer service. Very sad that a $4,000 laptop was filled with so many issues.

Excellent computer - especially when on sale
Purchased the OMEN Max laptop in mid-November, system has worked right out of the box with no issues. System updated automatically with previous MS PC. Even though this is labeled a gaming computer, I primarily use this for cybersecurity, finance, work, and school. The computer is more than what I needed for now, but should remain that way for the next couple years. Always buy a computer for what you may need in the future, not what you need in the moment. The colored keyboard is a little more than what I need, but the FN F4 key allows you to tunr it on/off, nice feature.

Omen Max Rules!
This is my 2nd purchase of a Omen Gaming computer. The original one was a few years ago and it was awesome, superfast and responsive. Now I've purchased another Omen Gaming computer and am pleased with the additional features, more ram, all solid-state memory and more of it, increased screen height, runs cooler and with self-cleaning fans. And it has Intel's Ultra 9 processer! I am very pleased with my newest purchase, now even more awesome!

A pleasant surprise
An absolutely pleasant experience compared to other top-of-the-line Windows laptops. As a Mac user for a decade, I had numerous concerns and preconceptions. But they were dispelled almost immediately. The only downside that still spoils the impression is the keyboard layout. Why can't it be made standard for all laptops so that muscle memory doesn't suffer, and typing is equally pleasant on all devices? And then there's the weight of the device — there's room for improvement there.

Arrived sooner than anticipated but...
I've had my new Omen Laptop for some time now. Was surprised it came quicker than expected, but sadly that was without any further enjoyment. I don't know what exactly it was, if it was the assembly, or transfer over, but my laptop keeps crashing. I've tried everything. Factory reset, bought it to tech experts to figure out the problem. It still crashes on occasion. I dont know why, or how to fix it.

The good and the bad of the HP Omen MAX 16
The unit came in and started up flawlessly. I thought the games (Ark & Grounded 2) looked great, but then I turned HDR on and they looked AMAZING! The system is a BEAST and handles everything I throw at it.
I configured mine with the Ultra 7 to minimize heat generation and the 5080 because I couldn't justify an extra $700 just for the 5090. I also got 64 gb of ram because that was a reasonably priced upgrade and I heard it was difficult to upgrade that on your own.
It is heavy, but I knew that if I wanted the power of a PC in a laptop, I would have to make some sacrifices.
My only gripe is that the power plug is big and gawdy. And I'm not talking about the power adapter - which is a monster. But the plug itself protrudes roughly 2" out of the center of the back. In the grand scheme of things this is a non-issue, but it concerns me that if bumped, it would break easily.
All things considered, becuase I travel a lot and cannot reasonably drag my gaming PC with me, this serves as both my personal computer, and gaming counsel with the ability to fit in my back pack.
I'd recommend it all day based on performance. But I have yet to have an issue with it and see how customer care is. I hope I never have to find out.

All Guts no Glory
I really enjoy the look of the machine. The white hides the fingerprints that the black unit was very easy to show and impossible to clean off and is understated enough. The lid really does need a notch or something to make it easier to open and it creaks every time I open or close it which is incredibly annoying and speaks to some poor assembly. I ultimately bought the unit because the price for a 5090 just couldn’t be passed up at the time but the thermals are SO bad it doesn’t really matter because it can’t utilize the card or processor to its potential anyway. I compared it to a RTX 5080 Legion 7i I also bought just before this and returned because I couldn’t justify the price but the Lenovo beat the pants off this Omen with a better 5090 card at the same power draw and fan speed settings so I am really disappointed even though I got a better deal on the Omen with a better GPU. All guts no Glory.

I love the laptop. However, the reason I can't give five stars is because the battery life is poor. I can't even use it for business stuff for more than 1.5hrs before the battery is dead. This is while using economy mode. Plugged in this computer rips. It's amazing..

Great laptop
Honestly lived up to the hype. It’s a big computer, looks amazing, only downside is the battery life… but it’s a gaming computer so what do you expect? By downside I mean 1 hr of gaming on the eco mode. Don’t expect this to run for hours unplugged. Other than that it is fantastic. I bought a fan stand to keep the temps low and that worked well, no other complaints.

My opinion on the Omen Max
I bought this laptop because of the specs for the price point during the 7/4 sale. It is well built compared to my Lenovo Legion 5. For the same price as my Legion 5, I got much more powerful machine. Overall, I’m happy with my purchase but I do have some minor complaints the biggest being the keyboard, the layout is awkward and the feedback response is lacking, I much prefer the layout and response of the Lenovo, it’s a much better typing experience. The OLED screen is good but the colors do not pop like my Samsung G9 or LG C3 OLED screens. I also wished that the screen can open up further.

Great laptop let down by questionable QC
Pros - Beautiful OLED display, great thermals and incredible specs.
Cons - A bit on the heavier side and not so great battery life (To be expected from a high performance gaming laptop)
After waiting for almost a month for this laptop, I had the keyboard completely fail on me within a week of use. I've used laptops from several brands over the years and I never expected to face this kind of an issue on such a flagship gaming laptop. It's been a hassle waiting for replacement unit and I hope HP can work on preventing such issues in the first place.

It will work with any devices that have matching input/outputs that are compatible with Windows 11.
