I wouldn’t buy this next time.
The charging port should be a 2c charger as most laptops are this way now. Also the bullock doesn’t work and I hate it.

So far, I haven't had it for 6 months yet. But so far it is so much better than my last one. It's a lot faster. I don't think it has a much at his own to it. As my last one, but it's a lot faster. Cheap material
Whatever the material is on thecoutside is not of good quality. My labtop is stained and ruined on the outside from putting a simple wet tissue for a mere minute. If your looking for a metal or handware labtop, this isn't your option.

Good but I have personal issues with it
Overall this is a good laptop. I installed Mint Linux on it and it runs superfast, boots up in 7 seconds. I can play videos and I dont have a loud fan turn on. I have two issues with it that others might not. One is that the keyboard makes an audible sound when typing, I want a keyboard that is completely silent. The other issue is that lid/screen hinge rotates so that it is below the bottom surface of the laptop. This makes an uncomfortable ridge that hurts my thighs when its on my lap. This means I have to use some kind of 'lap desk' to rest the laptop on. This is a problem with a lot of laptops made by many brands, it bothers me, it might not bother you. One thing I do like is that it is thin, light weight yet feels very stiff and strong.

I love the size the form factor, and generally it's sleek and appealing, not in the brushed aluminum allure of other competitor models...
The major flaws of this and the others in HP's lineup of keyboard layout design is the regression of functionality over 'design appeal', the reduction of the up/down arrow keys to be half the size of the full key. As a systems engineer and 'power user' I need ALL MY ARROW KEYS IN FULLY FUNCTIONAL FORM FACTOR. The other UNFORGIVABLE, they put the power key/button right there next to the delete/backspace key, the most utilized keys on the keyboard, so when someone needs to backspace or press the delete key, they may inadvertently hit that power on/off key unless they just configured it to be inert to do nothing...
The components, especially the wireless/bt and standard system components, I guess the budget value of things, but can we standardize to use industry standards, and by that I mean stuff that has basic support like the intel components for these things, I get marvell/realtek may be contracted suppliers but for people who can't stand windows and wants to have choice/autonomy ... aka putting linux on their systems, it's just multiple steps additional than just wiping and reload with linux to find the drivers or play with kernel versions compiling or whatever additional steps.
The other industry design flaw is the hijacking of the 'right control' key with the nonsense garbage copilot key, that right now 'everyone' in the world is tired of ai forced down their throats especially with the nonsense windows 11 debacle, but me personally I want and need function of my 'right control' key, sure there's additional steps to go through in linux and windows to change that and get the mappings to function again as what should have been the default 'right control' key.
Also it's 2025/2026, backlit keyboards should have been standard over a decade ago, not nickel and dime for additional $20 which I would have gladly paid if the purchasing on the website was functional and not broken to be routed to the CS assisted purchase option convolution of things leading to getting a laptop without the backlit keyboard if it might have been an upgrade-able option.
I say this with love, I've been a multi decade user of hp laptops and still have my functional laptops from decades ago, (dv8000, media vault, etc...) I always appreciated the 'value' of these machines, I though the quality was durable and stable, it's been a few years since my last hp laptop so this is basically a 10+ year refresh, so I'm anticipating the same expected known quality I've come to expect, if not I guess this will probably be the last hp laptop/device purchase. I've pretty much repurposed all of my former hp systems to some form of linux and they are still running, giving them new life and purpose.
As to this specific model, I personally chose to go with the most economical of the lineup with the biggest screen size so for under 400 which is a good deal/steal to me, for a refresh laptop system to replace older systems...I thought it was a justified purchase. These economic valued laptops are advertised as the every use, browse web and email use, base config comes with the 8gb ram, what's important to me is the fact that the ram is not soldered and capable of expansion, I immediately threw in 32gb, soon to 64gb - but I'm utilizing this for heavy duty browsing, multi tabs for management interfaces to difference systems, remote management, video captures and encoding, multi-virtual desktops for workflows, connections and management of storage servers, linux servers, local virtualization server/host management...
So I guess you could say I'm not using it for leisure web browsing and email :-) So the system does run hot with the vents on the bottom of the laptop frame, but it's on a laptop cooling pad with fans so I guess that offsets the heating from non-leisure workloads :-D
The design flaw to go for more 'sleek/appeal' and a regression from functionality along with the lack of non standard default backlit keyboard was the real reason for the non 5 star review, else so far it's a very capable economic valued laptop.

Great HP laptop
Nice 17" screen, easy to set up and excellent value. Very quick compared to the old windows10 pc. My wife will be using this with her embroidery machine in addition to internet access. The only negative is a lack of an ethernet port which she uses to communicate with her machines. However, this is easily corrected with a usb-c to ethernet adapter.

HP laptop 17!
I’m purchased this during the Black Friday sale and I’m glad I did. I’m not very computer savvy so I wasn’t looking into the details as much as some may. I wanted to replace my old Hp it was over 5yrs old and it was working slower then normal. My main goal was large screen, like my previous one. It’s working perfectly for me. No issues, easy set up. Bright screen ,large keypad (bonus). Very happy I ordered .
