Outstanding hardware, mediocre operating system
The 5-star rating is for the hardware. The SSD and RAM are blazingly fast, and there is plenty of room for expanding both memory and storage. And I am glad that HP still offers a choice to purchase a PC with a read-write optical disk.
On the other hand, the operating system (Windows 11 22H2), gets 1.5 stars at best. Useful commands have been hidden behind additional layers of context menus, and the Taskbar customization is now limited to the point where I can't uncombine taskbar icons or change them into text labels as in Windows 7. Microsoft needs to realize there is a good reason why hieroglyphics fell out of favor! Finally, the placement of the taskbar icons and especially the Start menu -- which are all now centered -- violates usability principles, as they move around the bottom of the screen depending on how many programs you have open, so before clicking you have to look directly and make sure where they have moved to.
All these user-interface defects required extensive modification with Start11 and WindowBlinds, which make it possible to return to a sensible interface.

Miss the old HP
It's like starting with a really nice business machine and then ruining it by removing the wifi, removing any Bluetooth, downsizing the SSD from 1T to 512G.
Terrible support. When asking what add-ons I need, I get sent to the Store division who know less than the original sales department.
Bad experience.
Back to Amazon or bestbuy.

Average workstation, but very difficult to keep things local to workstation only.
It's very difficult to disable one cloud and web processes like HP smart printing, when I don't want my fixings going to the web or cloud 1st, then printing or saving to my desktop or local files. I spent a total of 10 1/2 hours with HP live support trying to fix this issue. Very frustrating!

Nice looking case, everything ordered was there. Got a great price. Was not looking for a new computer but this special was too good to past up. i9 , 32 Gb , 1TB M.2, 3 year warranty, plus more. Added GTX 3060 ti after market. Had issue with the installation. Would not recognize card. It turned out to be the power adapters that came with my Zotac card. The extra power connector ( single pin ) was wrapped out of sight. Working great.

Great After Setup
Customized build but came with software I did not ask for. I can see including trial software with pre-built PCs, but not when someone is selecting each component. Otherwise the Z2 is working as expected. Still happy with the purchase, but knocked a star for the unwelcomed extras.

HP be clear about WIFI
My organization needed an entry level workstation. The sale of the product went smooth with the HP agent online. The price was reasonable. Please note, when purchasing a power house PC be aware that some do not have built in WIFI connectivity. This can be a problem if you need to get up and running before you have a dedicated ethernet line. This delayed us as we first had to contact HP and figure out if it had it or not, this process was not convenient as staff passed the buck, we did confirm we were dead in the water with no WIFI, we were provided possible options including a return paying a cost difference which would have set us back weeks. Solution: We ended up purchasing an external adapter. If you have ethernet ready to go, this computer will meet your needs.

Tower of Power: HP Z2 Tower G9
By combining Intel's 12th gen Core I9 processor with Nvidia's latest Ampere graphics and 4800 MHz DDR5 memory, the HP Z2 Tower G9 offers the tech professional an enormous amount of compute power in a small, attractively priced package, especially when combined with Windows 11 Pro. The option of adding an SD card reader together with a 20GB/s USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 front port is also nice; however, I do wish two or more Flex I/O modules were available for install.
While the system seems well engineered, quiet, and efficiently packaged, the rather bland-looking black case is somewhat disappointing when compared to the superb industrial design of my Z2 Mini G3. The internal layout also appears rather cramped, making the addition of a third M.2 SSD rather inconvenient.
Free shipping, outstanding customer communications, and the ability to customize the workstation to one's liking is also much appreciated, making the HP online shopping experience painless, even pleasant.

So close, but a little ways to go
It would be 5 stars, but as a new machine with a PCIe 5 slot, it doesn't have a PCIe 5 power cable, also it didn't come with the required NVMe standoff/screw which even the parts department doesn't know how to order the part.
Otherwise, I still am happier than when I tried to buy from Dell which I had been doing for the last 9 computers straight.

What I got is not what I wanted.
This particular Z2 G9 Tower Workstation I bought on Labor Day was a waste of money. I wanted to replace my old HP because the optical DVD drive did not work, which I told the lady I chatted with afterwards. There was not DVD player in it, I needed to buy another monitor that would connect with the new one, and a devise to transfer data, which was advertised as a bundle cable and link (erroneously), and I ended up having a very good Z2 G9 Tower Workstation that doesn't have what I wanted'

capable and high quality tools
I am preparing and purposing my new workstation for my digital media library projects at home and church. I am a HP family advocate and HP life customer. initially, was surprised wireless technology wasn't pre-installed and included with workstations. missed that detail in the fine print, which set me back a couple weeks. but now, with that issue fixed thanks to the HP customer support community, me, HP, and partners are slowly moving-in together. best part? HP production operations and support community. I feel like we are in this together. HP makes the research, development, and support tools/apps available to me to find answers and resolve issues quickly. ordering and purchasing from the online store was a good experience too. I love seeing my options organized, cataloged, and searchable. I can tell HP leaders are doing internal operations right and prioritizing their internal capabilities for quality and delivery, because externally, I was able to get my workstation setup quickly. great work, HP!

Cannot load software I need
Nothing wrong with the hardware as far as I know but Wolf Security I think is a problem with loading the software I need to run on this unit. There needs to be a bypass to this to at least get it loaded

What chipset does the motherboard use? I've read that i9-12900K gains ECC support when paired with W680 chipset. Is the motherboard chipset ECC compatible with I9?
