Disappointing Experience with HP Z2 G9 Mini Works
I recently had a disappointing experience with the HP Z2 G9 Mini Workstation, which I found to be problematic. The video ports, particularly the two DisplayPorts on the motherboard, have been a source of constant frustration, causing unstable video output. Attempts to resolve the issue by removing the extended graphics card proved futile, indicating a deeper problem with the unit itself.
Additionally, the workstation is equipped with two USB-C ports that are limited to charging only. This is particularly inconvenient given that many modern monitors utilize USB-C for input, rendering these ports useless for video output without resorting to specific adapters or compatible monitors. The necessity for a mini DP or DP monitor for proper functionality significantly limits the flexibility and usability of this workstation in a multi-monitor setup.
To make matters worse, my experience with HP customer service has been far from satisfactory. Reaching out for support turned into hours-long endeavors with little to no resolution, leaving me with the impression that customer satisfaction is not a priority. The overall lack of responsiveness and the apparent indifference to customer issues have only added to the frustration.
In summary, the HP Z2 G9 Mini Workstation has fallen short of expectations due to its unstable video output, restrictive USB-C functionality, and poor customer service. Those considering this workstation for professional use, especially in environments requiring reliable multi-monitor setups, might want to look elsewhere.

A Little Beast
Great machine, well thought out design with substantial case. The little bit of length increase over the previous model is well worth it due to being able to handle regular very deo cards, not just mobile. It was a piece of cake installing a second m.2 SSD.
The I9 with 64gb will handle anything I can throw at it. I contacted HP service to address questions I had. They were professional and a pleasure to deal with.

Can't handle the heat...
What is the point of offering k series procs if you can't cool them? I specifically went after a 65w i9-13900(non k) and ordered the 125w heatsink and fan. Running a stress test, it will run about 10 seconds before it throttles itself. It's a shame as I really like the small footprint of the machine and it is really quiet.

We love the Z2 Minis - we have had 5 of them to date and have very few if any issues with them. We keep ours on all the time and use them for production graphics and prepress. We need reliability and speed and these do the job of a large workstation in a small package. This new G9 model seems to offer improved cooling and extra internal space. This unit is fast!

Perfect mobile desktop!!
I owned a Z2 mini g5. I love the small format for traveling. Makes the perfect mobile desktop and now comes with a full graphics card. The only issue, I cannot connect to more than 1 monitor in some situations. But, I don't blame HP, It has to be a Windows 11 or Nvidia issue.

Very easy setup. Needed to run Win10 rather than Win11 (for the time being). Came with Win10 installed. Was up and going in 30 minutes or less. Peppy and small footprint fits well in my crowded office :) - does the job.

I received this and love it! I use it for work and it not only handles everything with ease, but it was so easy to set up that I thought I was doing something wrong! It runs smooth and setup is easy as well. I was up and running in less than 20 minutes! The graphics are amazing and I will be purchasing another for a back up! I love my new HP mini z2 workstation. Set up was very easy and took me about 15 minutes start to finish. I work from home so the set up on this is great!! It tucks behind the monitor and you can’t even see it. Speed on this computer is great! No lag time and no waiting. The graphics are awesome and sound is clear. I highly recommend this PC you will not be disappointed!!

Compact and impressive
This tower is very compact and sleek in design. A mouse and keyboard are included, but I had to purchase a monitor. This is about the size of my modem, it takes up very little space!. Windows Pro is already ready to go and its really fast loading webpages. The hard drive and memory can be upgraded, which is a big plus. The graphics are awesome. Its also an energy star model so won't use a lot of electricity like other computers. I really like the wolf pro security features. This is a really nice little system and perfect for what I need it for. I like that I can use my Bluetooth headphones with it. Ill probably upgrade to a wireless keyboard and mouse because I prefer those, but the ones included work fine. HP has made a great little system here. I am loving the compactness of it.

Fantastic - Speed Is a Delight!
I just started my own business and I knew HP would be the computer that would take me to the next level. The Z2 Mini G9 Workstation is powerful and fast and, it takes up very little space. Plus, it's very lightweight so when I need to move it - it's not problem! It's amazing that there is so much power is in such a small machine. Great for my small apartment! Highly recommend.

The HP Z2 Mini G9 Workstation provides incredibly high performance in a petite PC. I love the sleek and slender design that packs such a powerful punch! It runs on a Windows 10 Professional Operating System, has a NVIDIA RTX A2000 Graphics Card, a 4.9 Ghz Intel Core i7 processor, has 32GB RAM memory, and a 512GB hard drive. The 2.1Ghz intel core i7-12700 12 core processor with up to 4.9Ghz speed and 25 cache memory is phenomenal. I was absolutely blown away by the graphics which ensured the ultimate gaming experience. I also really enjoyed all the accessible ports including 4 x USB Gen 3.2 Gen 2 charging and 2 x USB-C 3.2 Gen 2x2 charging ports for lightning data movement speed. There's also a built-in DisplayPort 1.4 and Mini DisplayPort 1.4 for ultra fast data movement speed output to connect to TVs or multiple displays for jaw dropping HD entertainment. You can literally put this thing anywhere- in your office, next to your gaming consoles, even on your entertainment stand next to the TV! It will conveniently fit anywhere- and look good ! It even includes a HP 320K mouse and keyboard for immediate setup. I was initially skeptical, how can something so small be so powerful? But I couldn't be happier with this workstation- it has exceeded all expectations and then some!

Powerful Little Workstation!
HP's Z2 mini G9 workstation packs quite the punch despite its size. Able to be set on a desk and take up minimal space, the G9 unit is nearly silent and performs exceptionally well for browsing and basic work-related tasks. Also, with almost every input and output port thinkable provided, the G9 interfaces exceptionally well with any system, monitor, or device.
We will admit that we didn't push the G9 to the limits with graphic intense gaming as the system offers 32M RAM. Perhaps with more RAM, we would push the G9 to see what it can do.
Overall, the G9 performs remarkably well as a workstation and is a welcome reprieve from the bulky CPU of the past.

Can you install bigger HD and RAM? Can you dawngrade it to Windows 10?
Thank you for your interest in the HP Z2 Mini G9 Workstation. The customize option does allow you to start off with more RAM and larger storage drives. You can upgrade it later, but you do have that ability to customize it from the start. For Windows 10, it will depend on if Microsoft still has that option on Windows 11. In the customize option it is not available at this time. Microsoft has announced Windows 10 support is scheduled to end October 14th, 2025.
