Now My Home Office is Complete!
Item: HP Smart Tank Plus 551 printerPrinter: The printer arrived in one box in good condition. The material felt stable and substantial. Its construction is of high quality.Assembly: The assembly was fairly easy. The pictorial instructions were easy to follow. I did have to repeat the printhead recognition several times; however. I had to restart the printer to get it to work.Ink: The ink tanks are easy to fill and leak-free. Software Installation: The software download and installation were trouble-free on both mobile and PC.Performance: The printer performance is as expected. Print time is quick, and the sound is unobtrusive. There is no ink odor which is a huge positive for me.Print Quality: The print quality is good for both color and black and white. The ink does not run if wet.Problems: The problems encountered thus far include, the printhead recognition issue during assembly, and the manual duplex printing. Otherwise, I`m satisfied with the printer.Overall Conclusion: This printer works well for a home office, family, and student use. The print quality is satisfactory in both color and black and white. I only wish that it has auto-duplexing.

HP Smart Tank Plus Printer Review
I received this product in exchange for my unbiased opinion. Initial set up of this printer was very easy. The main "How To" booklet is fantastic with both pictures and description. Totally can be done by one person, no assistance needed. It took between 10-15 minutes from open box to printing. It would be best to do this on the surface you plan to print from, as moving the printer seems to be a bit of a hassle with the liquid ink tanks. I did not have any problems moving the printer after ink fill, but I was moving the product just a few feet, not between rooms.You need to be very careful when filling the ink tanks as it could be very easy to spill the ink. This is only when taking the lid completely off to remove the safety seal. Once the lid is bak on the ink, it was almost like injecting the ink into he well. Once tanks were filled, and print cartridges inserted, the test page printed out. First test page had some ink smears, but once several pages were printed, there was no longer a smear effect.I am quite pleased with the color printing from this printer. Although not necessarily a photo printer, I would be inclined to try to print on photo paper. In printing a full color ad, the colors were very true to the image on the computer screen.There is some difficulty getting the wifi to set up and it was very frustrating. It could have been that I had a delay during download, and had to add this printer to my existing printer selection page. Once set up, I was asked for the Printer Claim Code - and it was not accepted as valid. That is still an issue, but I am able to print with ease, even without having that part registered.The printer is quite noisy. It also had a slight shimmy when paper is feeding thought the printer. It is not enough of an issue for me to give this printer a lower rating.The printer was quite easy to select a print page from any room using the wifi and my mobile device. Ease of use is so important when you don`t want to be tethered to your printer, or stuck in the office.My only dislike is that the paper feeds from the top, taking up vertical space, versus a paper tray in the bottom of the printer. However that being said, it is easy to see when you are running out of paper.

Excellent printer
I received this product in exchange for my honest opinion. Positives: The HP Smart Tank Plus 551 is incredibly simple to set up. We had it up and running in under 20 minutes. Other than logging on the the network and filling the ink from the provided bottles, it was plug and play. The print quality on text and graphics is really nice. I regularly print 50 page handbooks for classes I teach and the text and pictures looks so nice. No change in quality between page 1 and 250. The ability to easily AirPrint is an added bonus. Even filling the ink was surprisingly easy. Negatives: the print speed is very slow. Also, the app and website are a bit tedious to use. Overall I recommend this printer, especially for light office or residential use. If you are looking for quality prints, additional functionality like scanning, and don`t like to spend an arm and a leg on ink refills, this is a great printer option.

Wireless Printer
We have been looking for a wireless printer that actually prints wirelessly for a long time - and looks like we`ve finally found one. The unit itself is larger than I expected but still fairly compact, especially for a combo printer / scanner. While the instructions to physically assembly the unit were clear, there were a number of steps. Not only were there two cartridges to install, but four inkwells that needed to be individually filled from a bottle. The bottles are well engineered so it was luckily not messy, but it was tedious. Installation proved to be a bit more difficult. I was able to easily set up to print from the mobile app on my iPhone, but getting it to print from our laptops required a number of tries. I had to download and follow the instructions three to five times in order to get it to work properly. I`ll note that I work at a co-working space and download and set up printer drivers regularly, so I did not expect for this to be an issue for me. Finally, the download eventually just worked. I had to delete the set-up software each time and start from scratch. The printer itself works well; the prints are good quality and the scanner is very easy to use. It also has a great feature where you can set up a customized email address and print simply by emailing that address. All in all it has been great to use, even after a tedious set up.

User Friendly Printer
I received this product in exchange for my unbiased review. I just moved across country and my new home office lacked a printer. This printer has been very useful as I complete all things that come along with such a big move. It has been reliable and does not take up as much space as printers I have had in the past. The printer was fairly easy to set up. It was packed very nicely, protecting it from any damage. Rather than typical ink cartridges this printer included bottles of ink for you to dispense into ink tanks. This sounds like it could be a disaster but it went rather smoothly. It is something to keep in mind if you plan to move the printer a lot, as it needs to stay perfectly upright to ensure the inks don`t leak. This is not a problem for me. I did briefly run into an issue with the printer heads during installation. I did not install them correctly which prevented the printer from printing the test page. Once I figured out the issue it took 2 seconds to correct. Connecting the printer to my network so it can print wirelessly was very easy! I was very impressed with this part because I have struggled with setting up printers on my computer and networks before. It has not had any issues staying connected to both either. I love that I can print from my phone whenever I need to. The print and scan quality is good and works for my needs. It does not take up a lot of space no my desk and looks sleeker than similar printers on the market. I have noticed that the printer doesn`t print very fast, but I have been spoiled with high end copiers in offices in recent years. I typically print less than 10 pages at a time so a small con. This would be more problematic if I regularly printed more at a time. I also feel that the scanner top is flimsy. This hasn`t impacted its ability to scan, but I do take extra care when using it. Overall, I am happy with the printer. The pros of the printer (aesthetic, compactness, print/scan quality) outweigh the cons (slow, flimsy scanner lid). I look forward to using it for, hopefully, a long time.

Printing Made Easy
I received this product in exchange for my unbiased opinion. At almost 60 years old, I`m not the most technologically advanced and often need an assist from my kids. However, this printer was so easy to assemble that I was able to figure it out on my own. It helped that the instructions booklet accompanying the printer was full of pictures that showed me how to go about each step. When I reached the step of filling the ink tanks, I was worried that the ink might spill and overflow the ink tanks, but I ended the step mess-free. The instructions were clear and simple to follow, unlike the instructions of other printers I have had in the past. I had no problems connecting the printer to my wireless network. In about 20 minutes, the printer was all set. Since setting up the printer, I have printed several documents and pictures in both black and white and color. The quality has consistently been high and has met my expectations. The printing is clear and sharp and is fast. One of my favorite features is that this printer holds more ink than other printers. I print a lot in my personal life and for work, so I like that I don`t have to worry about replacing the ink often and spending a fortune on ink cartridges. I also love how I can now conveniently print from my smartphone. However, one thing I don`t like about the printer is that it is fairly bulky and wide so it`s not the most ideal for a very small space. I wish the printer was more compact. Also, the control panel display on the printer is little so it`s hard to read. Especially for us older people, it should be made bigger. Other than that though, I was impressed by this printer and how it provides a stress-free, convenient, and high-quality experience every time.

Compact WiFi Desktop Printer
I received this product in exchange for my unbiased opinion. Setup: This product was quick and easy to setup. I used the instructional video, which moved a little fast in my opinion, but I was able to pause it in order to catch up. And the printed instructions helped when I got lost at all. It probably took me 10 minutes to get it up and running, which was really nice. Connecting: Downloading the app and getting started with the printer was really easy. I was actually impressed with how fast, I was up and running and printing. Quality: The quality of printing is really good. I printed some photos on photo paper that turned out fantastic. I was really impressed. I actually used this product for some items I had planned to take to get professionally printed at a store. Unique features: The camera scan to print feature is really unique and came out really well. The fun projects you can download from the app and easily send to the printer are fun and instant entertainment for the kids. Problems: My main problem with this product is the "file types not supported". There are some standard documents that you should be able to print, other then photos and pdfs, that I couldn`t get the printer to print. I did some research to find out if it was my app or what the issue was, but I couldn`t find a direct answer and found some other complaints about the same issue. Overall: I would say this printer is great for personal use with home projects and photos, but without all files being supported by the printer, I would not recommend it to a small business or student. While you can convert many products to a pdf to print, it is just too much of hassle.

how to add ink to cartridges? Refill?
The HP SmartTank printers use the HP 31 ink for colors and the 32XL for black. Those products can be found on this website. Thanks for your question!

Does this printer print front and back pages?
Thank you for your question! This HP Smart Tank Plus 551 Wireless All-in-One is not capable of duplex printing. The HP SmartTank 7001 and 7301 do have this capability, however.
