I expected better
So far, I'm overwhelmingly disappointed with this printer. 30 sheet paper supply means I've got to watch it and refill paper throughout large prints. The black print head fails every 6-8 pages--I have to open the printer and take out/re- insert the print head. It's very noisy and has to stop and pump ink every 30 seconds. Color printing is inconsistent and changes density throughout a print cycle. I'll probably return this and go back to a true ink jet.

So far it’s excellent
I am very impressed with the print quality. The ink is clearly high end. The print quality is equivalent to an office grade printer. It is quick and the WiFi function works too.

Can't believe the cost of the ink is a fraction of a laser toner. Great for home use.

I'm so please with this purchase. The Smart Tank Plus was super easy to setup and the print quality, for an inkjet, is great.

Too soon to tell
The quality on the few pages I have printed in the few days I've had the printer is good. I am excited about having a more convenient and economical source of ink available. The ink wells couldn't have been easier to fill.
I have a MAC and the new improved method of installing the printer software by letting an HP app do it did not work well. The Smart app stopped during the set up process to say that the software for the printer was not available and referred me back to HP to download the right software. That would have been fine. We've been going to HP and downloading printer drivers for decades. But instead of an option to download, HP linked this printer driver availability back to the Smart app which sent me there in the first place. It took a fair number of attempts, and subsequently time messaging with customer service over a couple of days to get a link that actually worked. That's not a customer service or shipping issue--that's a software issue.

Did not work right out of the box!!
This thing was kind of a weird kind of contraption. I set the whole thing up and it didn't even work the first time around right out of the box.

Great Color
Although I don't like the feature that requires the paper to be stacked outside of the printer and exposed to light and wind, I really like the color quality. Almost like an actual photo.

Holding off on review
I opened my product today and was very excited. I followed page by page instructions and continued to get a paper jam error. I went to virtual agent, reset printer, checked everything for several hours and I am a little frustrated. I called the service center and they will be sending out another printer. Hope it comes fast because I am a teacher and need to start using it. I will wait for my final review once I have received and set up the new printer.

Bought this a month ago - Very disappointed in how little paper it holds, it scan right from camera's disc, I cannot shrink/expand image with the printer and many other features of my previous HP. And I could NOT find a printer with more extra features. It also took about 2 days using a total of 5 hours to install and 2 computer techs from our remote IT company to get it to work.

I like the quality of print from the printer, however, I was not happy with the two side print feature. My other printer printed both sides in the print process and I did not have to mess with taking the pages out and turning them over in the tray and restart the print process. I will probably get used to it, just don't like it.

Quick and easy install
I have had the printer about 3 days. Installing the printer was very easy. Clear easy to follow instructions were so appreciated. Connecting to laptops and other devices presented no problems. The printer is quite and the print quality is amazing. I have already used it for work and to print educational activities for the kids. It is compact so it doesn’t take up much space. It is definitely a smart purchase.

Hello Good Buy
Nothing but praise so far - easy to set up, prints well without a lot of annoying noises. Really digging the wireless bit; it's so nice to not have it crammed on my desk just to hook up to the computer. Also like the ink fill - the tank system is already way better than cartridge. I am interested to see if the "two years worth of ink" actually holds up, but barring issues with that, def a 10/10 would buy again.

Electrical plug in back keeps popping out...
Two things I dislike about this new Smart Tank I purchased, the electrical plug in back is so flimsy it keeps popping out, it's not deep enough for the prongs to attach to it firmly. I replaced this printer from another HP printer that was broken and I took the plug from the old printer, that was made better, and I plugged my Smart Tank printer with it, it works a little better, it is the printer's prongs that are set up too narrow, what a frustrating experience to have to keep pushing the plug in back to the printer!!!
The second reason I dislike is that when you buy this printer and you want to make it "Wireless" you need a V7 2.0 cable to plug in and in you USB so it will set up the printer to be used with no cable. NO Cable comes with the printer, I had to order that cable before I could finish to set up the printer so it would work!!!!
I only printed 2 Greeting Cards with it since I got it all set up and it does print well, as HP does!
Also, I may add, each bottle fills the container full, and to add the ink, the ink bottles are set up with the nozzle going into the container and it did not spill any ink at all. One of the inside Head had not snapped it correctly and I had to pull and push on it harder, and, it stained my fingers, just so you are aware of this!

Powerful Little Tank!
First I must say that the initial setup for the HP Smart Tank Plus 551 printer was so simple. Each of the steps have both written and pictoral representations of what you should be doing. Each step numbered accordingly so that each process is done in the correct order. Intimidated was an understatement of my feelings when I saw that the ink wasn`t a prefilled cartridge but instead a bottle that I need to use to fill the cartridge, however the way the bottle connected to the cartide left no room for spills or messes. I was thoroughly impressed. I was however, disappointed with the process of connecting the HP Smart Tank Plus 551 printer to my wifi. It was not entirely clear. I went to the 123.hp website which prompted me to download HPsmart. I followed the steps exactly but for some reason was told to connect it via USB cable first. I didn`t have the appropriate USB cable needed and it was not included with the printer. I wish I knew this before I started the setup phase.(FYI you will need USB A/B 2.0) But that was the only downside because it prints beautifully. The things I copy look more crisp than the originals! I absolutely love being able to print professional quality programs and fliers without paying an outside printing company which is going to shave off some of my overhead. Overall I love this hard working printer but not in love with the wireless setup.

Greatly Reduced My Administrative Work!
I received this product in exchange for my unbiased opinion. I am so glad that I had this opportunity. I was in the market for a new printer that made it easy for me to use remotely and from my mobile phone. PROS: I work from 40% of the time, my office is 20 miles away and I spend a lot of time in my car traveling between appointments. I used the HP Smart Tank Plus 551 to print documents from the office and send to my home printer. This allowed me to have the proper documents ready for the next day appointment. It was simple for me to send email attachments to the printer and have it waiting for me at my home office. I was pleasantly surprised when I printed a financial document that was sent in 8.5x14 document format. I just knew the printer would print on several pages because there were several columns. It did not do that. The printer formated the paper to 8.5x11 (the size in the printer). The color and print quality exceeded my expectations. These are copies I was satisfied with to share with my clients.CONS: This particular model does not allow for double sided printing (remotely). This means I used more paper, especially when a doubled sided document would have been preferred.OVERALL: I will continue to use this printer for my business use.

HP Smart Tank Plus 551 Printer
Read the set-up instructions and started filling the ink. Directions were not very detailed but filling was easy to do and intuitive. However, things went down hill from there. Having to add the ink cartridge did not go as easy. The directions definitely to flow but I was able to get it attached. Unfortunately, the machine wouldn`t work from there. I kept getting error messages. Called support and they had me try a few things including taking cartridge out - which in the end I just got ink all over my counter as well as my hands. Very frustrating and what a mess! I would not buy this printer as I do not want to deal with ink that could spill out when moving (as I need to move printer from place to place) Also don`t like the mess.

Smart & Unique
The HP Smart Tank printer had some pros and cons. First the size of the printer is bigger than I expected. I guess I was expecting a machine that was easy to transport if I needed to travel with it. Due to the printer "tanks" traveling with this thing is definitely not recommended unless you plan to hold it in an upright position the duration of the trip. The printer comes with four 70ml bottles of ink (one of each color). Filling the tanks is rather easy and while it seems the bottles would at least yield enough ink for a refill after the initial fill there was less than an ounce of product left which could be a disappointment if the price of the refills are expensive. The printer box indicated that the printer ink should last for 2 years. I can`t see that being true considering the ink level decreased quite a bit after using the printer to print quite a few pictures and a 30 page research paper.WIRELESS SET UPI feel the set up of the printer took the longest and probably would not be easy for a person who is not computer savvy. The included manual stops at this point and directs you to go on the HP website to complete the set up. Once on the website it took a while to follow the steps to get the printer connected to my laptop. FINAL THOUGHTSOverall I like the printer. It prints quickly and I love that it is wireless. The fact that I can print from anywhere just by emailing my printer is perfect for me and my business. I would recommend it.

HP Inkjet with Some Bonus Features
"I received this product in exchange for my unbiased opinion."Assembly: Overall the printer took a bit of time to setup, due to having to fill the ink tanks and install the cartridges. After that, it was a matter of going through all of the first run instructions once I plugged it in.Network Connection: I would say that this was the most difficult part of setting up the device. Your only network option was to use wifi, which means you have to connect to the printer to enter your WPA2 passphrase. You can use USB, but that would only help with the one computer, and wouldn`t allow you to print from your other wifi devices. This took more effort than it should have. You had to download the HP Smart app on your phone. Then you have to disconnect your phone from your wifi, connect directly to the printer wifi, and then search for your printer. This went fine, but then it in reverse wants you to re-join your real wifi network while in the app to then make the app try to setup the wifi connection for the printer. This is confusing and then required that I switch my wifi on the phone back and forth several times between ssids, and close and reopen the HP Smart app a couple of times until the app wizard finally showed the WPA2 passphrase entry screen. Most people will have problems with this part, and should be easier to transfer over your wifi settings from your phone. Like the way my garage door opener was able to copy it from phone to device without all of the boucing around networks. This is becoming a common issue with all of the new headless smart devices coming to market.Usage: After I finally got through setup, it works just like any HP inkjet printer you`ve used before. Colors are good, and it quickly prints pages once it runs through all of its wake up and alignment processes. I used it with couple of Macs, and it installed very quickly, and used Secure Airprint for the wireless printing. That was a great bonus. Same from print from my phone using Airprint, which worked flawless and effortlessly.Consumables: I haven`t used it enough to verify how long these refillable tanks will last, but the estimate sounds great compared to traditional cartridges. I will say that the paper feed tray is a little shallow, and only holds about an 1/8 of a paper ream, so you will have to refill this often if you are used to using a laser printers.Overall: Overall I would recommend if you are planning on purchasing an inkjet. HP reliability, but the initial setup needs some fine tuning.

A good small printer
This printer prints well and I don`t have to always be working with it like most ink jet printers.I really like the ability to add large amounts of ink to this printer so I don`t have to change cartridges constantly. The instructions for setup are easy to follow and use diagrams so you know what to do - take off shipping tape and inserts, install cartridges, install ink into the tanks. Most ink jet printers require cartridge changes fairly often - time consuming, messy, and expensive. This printer uses tanks of liquid ink so the the ink will last much longer so I don`t have to spend a lot of time dealing with the printer. This printer appears to be very high quality which HP is known for. The engineering appears to be very good as well - especially the ink tank filling process which was easy to do and did not spill a drop. The only difficulty I had with this printer was getting it operational. My printer only has WiFi connectivity. It took awhile to figure out the link for drivers and setup on the network, but once I found the right link it was fairly automatic. One note of caution, My PC was attached to the WiFi router with an Ethernet cable (for speed reasons) and it caused difficulty when I tried to connect to the printer in the browser using the printer`s IP address. Once I unplugged from Ethernet and connected the PC with WiFi, everything worked smoothly.Overall, this printer works well and I am very satisfied with it.

Great functional printer
I received this printer in exchange for for my unbiased opinion. We print constantly at my house because I work from home. This printer was easy to set up and very simple to get running. I love the large ink tanks that will not need to be changed for a long time. It holds the paper well and it prints much faster than any home printer I have used before. I`d definitely recommend this printer if you print frequently at home.

For Sure the Best Printer I`ve Ever Owned
The HP Smart Tank Plus 551 is the second wireless enabled printer I`ve owned and probably the 5th printer I`ve owned in my adult life. It is by far and away the best printer I`ve ever owned. Typically I don`t do a ton of printing at home, but I just recently started consulting which is why I needed a new printer and I wanted something that was not only an All-In-One, but also easy and reliable. Since getting the printer I have really put it to the test and it has passed with flying (vibrant, Smart Tank - haha!) colors! Here is a rundown of why I am such a fan of this printer:- The print quality is wonderful!I am a week into using it and I have printed a number of things both in color and plain black & white documents, on regular white paper, as well as on cardstock, and even printed over 15 sheets on a high gloss paper and I have been so impressed with the print quality. Of all the things I printed, there was only one that you could see the lines from the way the printer works, but it was a large black box with white text. All of the things I printed that were more like photos had no lines whatsoever and it looked like I had them printed professionally.- Printing from an app on your phone is AMAZING! Setting up the app and getting the printer set up on my phone was a breeze and it sure does make printing super simple. - The ink does seem like it will last a LONG time!I really like that there is a visual way of seeing how much ink you have left. As I mentioned, I have printed a lot of stuff already and there is only a very small change from where the tanks started.Next... My thoughts on getting it set up:- The instructions were fairly straightforward. I liked the way they were broken up step-by-step. Total time from opening the box to printing took about 35 minutes which is kind of long - but that was mostly operator error. The only step I struggled with was putting in the print heads. They naturally kind of slip out and I couldn`t figure out how to lock them in. It was fairly annoying and I though I got it but when I went to run the test print page it made some horrible noises and I thought I broke the whole printer! But luckily troubleshooting with the reference guide made it easy to figure out it was the printheads that made the noise and I just didn`t have them in properly. So word to the wise -- make sure they completely click/lock into place. But other than that little snafu, everything was easy-peasy.Overall impression:Buy this printer! It really is great - seems to be more high quality than most at home printers and refilling the ink will hopefully be more economical since it will be less frequent than a normal printer cartridge and the refills will last a long time too.
