Rated 4 out of 5 by 0mie from Decent Little Printer I’ve been using an old HP printer for the better part of last 10 years, it’s done the job it needed to do, but the ink was getting expensive; replacing all the colors plus blank ink is ~$150 every 3-6 months depending on usage. When I saw the Smart Tank and cost of ink I was all in, the initial setup was a little weird even for someone like me who is very tech oriented. After the initial setup it was pretty smooth sailing, I had to do software update and connect via HP Smart app to do some of the basic stuff I wanted to do. Overall good printer in the time I’ve had it. Just a few minor annoyances, takes ~30 seconds or more to even start printer after you send the job and it’s kind of loud even in the “silent” mode, it does say the silent mode will make printing slower, but if it’s loud in the “silent” mode, I can only imagine regular mode. We’ve already printed a couple hundred pages for Little League flyers, plus random stuff around the house for the kids and forms. The ink indicator says it’s still full which is a nice change, my other printer would have been dead most likely after all the pages I’ve printed. If I can get the “2 years” quoted out of the ink the came in the box I’ll be happy, even if I get a year that would be amazing. Our printing is never consistent, so it’s good to have some options. I was looking at the ink cost, it’s about 1/3 of the cost from my previous printer even if I have to replace ink every year I’ll be elated, replacing ink every 3-6 months would still be a good savings. If you need something that is “easy” to setup and doesn't cost an arm and a leg for ink replacement cost this is the way to go, most people won’t care if it takes a little extra to print since it does the job and does it well. Our pages come out crisper and are more like HD prints than we are used to. The dry time is also next to none on heavily saturated prints, we don’t have to wait a long time or watch for smearing which has been great.

I still have my old one that is working great but figured I’d give this one a try as an upgrade and I will say I am very happy I did. It was very easy to set up with the HP smart app. The printing was much faster than my old one and the quality was very clear and crisp. I would highly recommend this printer and brand to any family or friends who are in the market

Rated 5 out of 5 by Mamiep from Best Home Printer I’ve Used The HP Smart Tank 5101 All-In-One is the best home printer I’ve ever owned. The step by step animation in the HP Smart App made set up a breeze. I was literally printing within minutes of taking the printer out of the box. The tank system for ink is easy to fill and refill. I love that I can actually see exactly how much ink I have left after projects. The ink bottles are recyclable which is great for the environment. The color prints are so vibrant! The print speed is fast. 12 pages per minute for black and white, and 5 pages per minute for color. It’s convenient that I can print, scan, or fax from anywhere on any device. Connectivity issues are solved by the self healing wi-fi. The only minor problem I have with this printer is the screen is very small and the buttons are hard to see. All said, this is a pretty perfect printer!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Virginiayepez from Beyond the Box: Navigating the HP Smart Tank 5101 I recently got my hands on the HP Smart Tank 5101 All-in-One Printer, and I'm here to share my thoughts about it: Ink Tank System: One of the best features is the ink tank system, which fill the cartridges. While it's meant to be convenient and cost-effective when we print high quantity of paper. Setup Experience: Setting up the printer wasn't as smooth sailing as I expected. I understood filling the tanks, because that how other printers with tank set, but It is a bit tricky to install the cartridges too, and it took me longer than anticipated to get everything up and running. It could definitely be more user-friendly in this aspect. Print Quality: When it comes to print quality, the HP Smart Tank 5101 delivers really nice results, clear print and I try to print heavy weight cardstock, and it can take it easily. Functionality: As an all-in-one printer, it does handle scanning and copying tasks adequately. However, I found the scanning process to be a bit sluggish at times, especially when dealing with multiple pages. It gets the job done eventually, but it could be more efficient. Connection set up: we may need to download the HP SMART APP in the computer or phone to set up WIFI connection. In conclusion, the HP Smart Tank 5101 All-in-One Printer is a decent option for those on a budget looking for a high quantity/quality printing solution. While it is not the easiest one to set up, it does offer some value for money. However, if you're looking for top-notch performance and seamless user experience, you might want to explore other options on the market.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Shackettj from Excellent HP Smart Tank printer! Today I opened my new HP printer and set it up. I was surprised at how easy the process was considering it was a new kind of printer that I had never tried before. I was able to fill the tanks and set it up in around 15 minutes. I was impressed at how easy it was to follow the instructions and set it up for printing. I tried a couple of practice pages to see the quality and was quite impressed. The colors are vibrant and I love the fact that I’m not going to be running out of ink quickly. The process was so easy and I appreciate the thorough instructions. It was easy to connect to Wi-Fi as well. So far, I am definitely a fan of this new HP printer and would recommend it to others.

Rated 5 out of 5 by andoFC from Easy to set up. Great printing results. This was my first time using a home printer with refillable ink tanks, and I'm really impressed with the technology. The printer comes with a large bottle of black ink and three smaller bottles of the colored inks. Filling the tanks was easy -- simply open the bottle, invert it over the ink tank, and hold steady until the tank is full. The black bottle contains enough ink for more than one fill, so store that bottle away for later. Absolutely no mess at all! I feel good about being able to refill the ink rather than buying entirely new cartridges, and I love that I can individually fill one color at a time. The print quality is fantastic. The HP Smart Tank 5101 produces crisp, clear blacks and vibrant colors. I even got great results printing on heavier cardstock, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it handles things like labels as well. The HP mobile app is really convenient, allowing me to print photos or documents directly from my phone over Wi-Fi. HP even provide a library of printables right in the app, like coloring sheets and planner pages. There's even printable craft projects. I'll continue using my existing laser printer for high-volume black and white printing, but the HP Smart Tank 5101 is now my go-to printer for color documents. The effortless integration with the mobile app is simply an unbeatable feature. I particularly like the integrated Wi-Fi which means it's easy for everyone in the home to print directly from their own desktop, laptop, or phone, without needing to log in to one particular computer. I'm very impressed with how home color printing technology has progressed recently, and HP have produced an excellent printer for family use.

It offers low running costs thanks to its refillable ink tanks, which are claimed to provide up to 2 years of ink. Here's a quick rundown of its pros and cons: Pros: * Low running costs with refillable ink tanks * Up to 2 years of ink included * Mobile printing capabilities * User-friendly HP Smart app Cons: * Slow print speeds * Not great for photo printing Overall, the HP Smart Tank 5101 is a good choice for home users who print a moderate amount of documents and prioritize affordability.

Rated 4 out of 5 by TNHuskyMama from Great for at-home printing The HP Smart Tank All-in-One Printer is able to meet all my needs for at-home printing of both personal and work documents along with digital photos. The printer was easy to setup using both the included Instructions for Use and the HP Smart app available for download. Filling the ink tanks was a mess-free and a breeze thanks to the color coded bottles and ink ports. I love the tank level indicators on the front of the printer that allow me to see just how much ink I have left. The amount of ink used for printing pages seems very minimal leaves me confident I will be able to print numerous work documents throughout the year without fear of running low on ink. Connection to WI-FI was quick and painless allowing me to use all of the features available on the HP Smart app. The app allows printing from my phone when I am away from my desk and computer. The self-healing WI-FI feature available proves efficient as I have not noticed any loss of connection during use. I was impressed with the print quality of printed pages to include a digital photo printed on regular printing paper. The print is crisp, colors do not bleed, and the speed of printing was quicker than other at-home printers I have used in the past. The paper feed picks up one piece of a paper at a time limiting paper jam experiences thankfully. The printer status window is quite small and hard to see in a low lit area. While the status buttons are well-lit, they will only light up when a related featured is engaged, such as document scanning. The scanning buttons only light up when a something is placed on the scanning window of the printer. I do recommend this printer for at-home use for light print jobs.

I also had some last minute Medical Forms i had to print and this Printer took care of my needs and everything printed clearly. And adding/loading the ink wells was definitely interesting! It took me 15 minutes from start to finish to get it going and printing and fully setup not too bad...I Love it..

Rated 5 out of 5 by february101 from Exciting future of Printing! I could not wait to start using my printer! As soon as my husband and I received it in the mail, we got to work setting it up. The printer is so smart, it seems to communicate with you. When you press the info or wifi button it prints pages with step by step instructions for both HP and Mac to help you troubleshoot the problem. I did have trouble connecting it to my wifi, which was frustrating, but once I had it set up there were no additional problems. It was worth the trouble because it helped me familiarize myself with the new technology. When I saw the results of my print job I was very impressed- the colors are so vivid and the print is very precise. The paper loads in easily and feeds smoothly. I love how the ink is in liquid bottles and not toner cartridges. I feel like I am helping reduce my carbon footprint. This is a printer that I hope lasts a long, long time. I will recommend this printer to my family and friends! It works great on a desk, attached to a lap top, in an at home office, to print both business and personal jobs.

Rated 4 out of 5 by The Whit from Just enough Coming from the HP 8600 I need to remember I don't make that many copies anymore. I don't do many multiple copies. I don't FAX, SCAN was difficult. Lastly, the cartridges were as expensive annually as a new printer. The SMART TANK 5000 is just enough. Color/black & white printing, refillable ink cartridges, SCAN, Remote Printing which is quiet. The single missing star was on Wi Fi set up. Needed to move down from 5G to 2.4G to successfully set-up (can move back to 5G after). My Internet company helped with this.

After 3 hours on the phone, pictures, control of my system by tech, it was established that the print heads were missing a latch? I told customer service that something wasnt right with print heads. Passed the coment on to tech service. 3 hours later..... Custmer service told me to send printer back and once they received it and confirmed the problem they would send me a new one. Or I could buy a new one and they would reimburse me wben they received and confirmed the defect.

Kept hearing a beeping noise….. troubleshooted the printer… 🖨️ Still beeping noise…… tried calling customer service Four times…. I was placed on hold every time… the call was disconnected every time. Had to start the call all over again. Not an easy process. It’s a series of questions you have to go thru to get help with setting up this printer. I never was able to speak directly to a person until almost 8pm that night. By then I was frustrated. I sent it back and got my full refund. Refund took about a week to post back to my account. They charge you for a RESHELVE FEE …. To resale this piece of 💩. Never again…. Never. There is no customer service at all to assist you in any way.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Mintyjang from So far so good! I have had other HP printers in the past and I was getting tired of constantly buying ink cartridges. I like that the ink in this ink tank printers goes a long way before needing to replace/refill them. The print quality is good and it prints faster than my old ink jet printers. I think the only caveat with this printer (and I didn't realize it until I used it) was that you have to manually flip the paper over to print both sides, whereas my old inkjet printers did that automatically. Other than that, it's pretty solid. It was easy to set up and connect to my computer and wifi.

Rated 5 out of 5 by B A Moo from Good Printer - Fair Price Lets start by saying I am a baby boomer but not totally ignorant when it come to computers and things. I found the set up instructions a little off. Some of the sites that I was directed to were different than shown in the directions and did not react as described in the manual. I found it much easier to set up the printer using a printer cable first.(That was very fast- once I gave up on the manual instructions) It went much smoother and I was able to set up the wireless feature later. The printer prints as you would expect - nice clear images and text. The ink was easy to load and it seems this process will be much better than buying ink cartridges. Have had this for about 2 weeks now and I am completely satisfied with this purchase.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Mike736 from Average Printer I see the major advantage of this printer as the infrequency of the ink replacement. I was able to get it loaded with ink, and up and running fairly easily. However, every time I use it, first it has to "wake up", which takes a minute, and then it has LOTS of whirring and clicking and clanking noises when it actually prints. The quality of the print has been very good so far.

From the sleek design to its exceptional quality, this printer stands out. It delivers sharp and vibrant prints consistently. The printer speed is perfect for high volume tasks. What highly stands out are the specific instructions to set it up, very detailed and sensible to follow. I was dreading and anticipating a couple of hours to assemble but was less than an hour. Rated 5 out of 5 by GERSEB from Thank you HP fantastic printer. What impressed me about this Smart Tank 5101 printer is how small it is, it fits anywhere. It is surprising how easy it was to install, really even a child could do it. One of the things I appreciated is how quiet it is when printing or scanning. HP has done a great design with this printer, as the print quality is unbeatable. The application is really easy to use and when you are in a hurry it works great. The system for filling the ink tanks is fantastic as there is no chance of spilling ink. And the best thing is that using the ink is cheaper than buying cartridges in previous models. This printer is definitely worth the money. We are very happy with this outstanding printer.

does the Smarttank ink system last longer than a regular ink cartridge system ? For a moderate amount of printing?

    Asked by: Printkitty
Hello. Thanks for your question. The HP Smart Tank 5103 All-in-One Printer comes with ink bottles that can print up to 6000 pages in color or black. Compared to traditional ink cartridges, its Smart Tank system tends to last longer for moderate printing needs—though how long it lasts will depend on what you print.

Is this printer able to be used - wired - and if so, does it come with the needed cords? If it can be used wired, and I just need to get a cord, ***is this the case for all HP printers?***

    Asked by: GoGoGadgetDoom
Hello. Thanks for your question. Yes, the HP Smart Tank 5103 All-in-One Printer can be used with a wired connection. It comes with the necessary power cord, but if you need a USB A to B 2.0 cable to connect it to your computer, you will need to purchase it separately if you don't have one. All the current HP printers will have the capability to be connected to the computer with the USB A to B 2.0 cable.

I have a 200 page document. Can it scan all 200 pages at once to the same PDF file ? I only seen to be able to scan 5 pages then it makes a new odd file.

Asked by: Need to scan large
Hello. Thanks for your question. The HP Smart Tank 5103 All-in-One Printer does not have an Automatic Document Feeder (ADF), which means it can only scan one page at a time. If you need an ADF, we recommend considering the HP Smart Tank 7301 or 7602 All-in-One printers, which do include this feature. The ADF can handle up to 35 pages at a time. You can add more pages as the previous stack gets low. We recommend using the HP Smart app. It will allow you to scan and save the scanned pages as a single PDF. You will be able to rename the file also. The HP ScanJet Pro N4600 fnw1 is as standalone scanner that has an ADF that can handle up to 100 pages at a time.
