You'll Love This Printer!
I love my new HP Smart Tank 5101 All-in-One Printer. Unpacking and set-up was so simple, you guys! The tanks are easy to fill, and the technique and design used to fill the tanks creates a NO-MESS refill process. I was honestly amazed and pleased at how easy it was and that it wasn't as messy as the old school printers.
For the price point of this printer, I am really pleased with the print quality. If you're looking for basic printing in both black & white, as well as vivid color, this is the printer for you!

Fantastic HP All-in-1 Printer
HP has a long history of high-quality printers. The HP SmartTank 5101 All-in-one printer keeps the tradition going.
~Ease of Setup: I am a long-time toner cartridge user, so I was hesitant to a tank style printer. Messy ink cartridges have frequently colored my hands, but I was surprised at how easy it was to setup. My 80-year father, one of the primary users, filled the tanks and found it very easy and intuitive. Then looking at the directions after the fact, we realized that the directions were quite easy to follow as well.
Simple setup and no more messy ink cartridges.
~Ink: The tank system, a high-capacity tank system significantly reducing the frequency of refills, is living up to the hype. That and a 2-year supply. love it.
~Wireless: An extremely critical need for our house was wireless connectivity. We have multiple operating systems in the house, including a Chromebook. I had spent over a dozen hours having the Chromebook connect to other printers, with only limited results. ~The HP SmartTank 5101 was a great success. Quick and easy setup. No extra apps, no extra cables. All machines, laptops, Chromebook, android phones, and google phones can print wirelessly.
~Quality and speed. The print speed and quality is appropriate for a home office. There is an initial adjustment of the print heads when first printing, but overall great speed. Quality is great and though I have not tried all paper types, I expect great results when needed.
~Copy / Scan – This is quite easy and straight forward. Either using the options on the printer itself or via the HP SmartApp. Great Quality and performance were up to HP standards.
~My only with would be a paper tray instead of a feeder. I personally and keep the paper straighter and more aligned using a tray instead of a feeder.
The HP SmartTank 5101 is a successful addition to the HP printer family!

Printing Quality is Great!
Setting up this printer and connecting to wifi for bluetooth printing was very simple. Had a little trouble printing in color at first, for some reason the printer was not registering it's ability to print in color. (When setting up ink and test prints, it had outputted color tests so knew they worked) Had to delete and reinstall the driver a few times - forums were saying it could be a laptop update required but I wasn't quite convinced of that. MacBooks make it VERY easy to run through this process so this was painless. Prints look fantastic! I was afraid ink for this printer was going to be atrocious but it doesn't seem too bad - hopefully these tanks last longer than cartridges. I'm excited to try this technology!

Love my HP Tank printer
I have always had HP Deskjet printers, and it seems like I was constantly ordering ink cartridges...either I ran out or didn't use the printer in a while and for some reason, they didn't work right. I love the idea of the tank printer. Supplies will be much cheaper.

needs help
after 2 weeks it went crazy started printing out the same thing over and over again and the only way to stop it was to turn it off and tryed talking to a teck but had to pay for that so i just dumped it tryed contacting to send back but only got a computer who did not comput..

Great print quality, easy set up, but a bit clunky. And I wish it had an option for a document handler; scanning one page at a time is tedious. But I guess that's on me, isn't it? All in all, a good product at a fair price.

Good quality printer
As with all the HP printers I have had the quality is as expected. The HP Smart Tank 5101 All-in -One Printer was very easy to set up. It took maybe 20 minutes to set up.
Filling the ink tanks was very easy and not messy at all. I expected some spillage but there was not any.
Connecting it to my wi-fi and my devices was a breeze. I love the fact that the plastic bag in the box had handles to pull the printer out of the box easily. No more fighting to get out of the box.
The print quality is great. Printing speed is good. The printer does a lot of movement when you send it a file to print. If I remember right it is cleaning the heads of the pens. But once it starts printing the quality is great.
I have not tried other types of paper yet but I am sure it will handle it well.
The only complaint I would have is the paper feeder. I find it hard to load the paper without damaging the bottom corner. But that is just. me. Once I have the paper in correctly it feeds it properly and have not had any jams.
HP has always made quality printers and this one is no exception.
I whole heartly recommend this printer.

Easy To Use Printing, The New Normal.
The HP Smart Tank 5101 is dead easy to set up with clear instructions on paper and in the Android app. It took mere minutes. The ink bottles are clearly labeled and have a unique nozzle shape that prevents spills. Open the access door, plug in the bottle upside down on the color coded slot, and watch the ink tank get full. It's that easy!
The software is easy to use and allows you to print, scan, and copy from your computer or mobile device, as well as monitor your ink levels and there is a troubleshooting section but I had no problems and didn't have to use it.
The HP Smart Tank 5101 produces high-quality prints and copies. Text is sharp and clear, and colors are vibrant and accurate. The printer is also able to print on a variety of media, including plain paper, photo paper, and envelopes. I have printed Black and White pages, Color Pages and Photos and all looked great. Honestly, even the initial printer calibration page looked amazing.
One really great feature is the auto scan ability. You can quickly scan a bunch of pages or photos with one touch of a button per page. It greatly decreased the time it would take for me to digitize a photo album.
Overall, the HP Smart Tank 5101 is a great all-in-one printer for larger families and small businesses. It's easy to use, produces high-quality prints and copies, and has a very low cost per page.

Unique printer style
The printer design is very sleek and very appealing. The quality of what is printed is very good and has no streaks. The printer requires liquid ink plus additional printer heads, which is new to me but I assume provides a more quality and consistent printing. The 5101 is definitely a home printer and not meant for busy office work.
Connecting to wifi and to the computer took a couple times but it eventually worked.
The blank paper is loaded from the rear, which is odd and requires the printer to be slightly positioned away from a wall in the back in order to feed correctly.
Printing also is a little slow but is common with non-laser jet printers.
Otherwise, the printer will be a great replacement for my older model that is obsolete.

Suits my needs
This is a simple printer that fits what I need it to do. It is not overly complicated and prints very well. The ink was easy to install and it connected well to my computer. The color was rich and looked professional and every image I printed came out looking very crisp. Main complaint I have is the speed it prints at. It takes a while to receive the "order" and then another good minute to actually print out what I asked it to. Since I'm usually just printing out something for my kids or a recipe or something I'm ok with that but I would not recommend this for a business or someone working from home. It also got a little frustrating when an error occurred, it kept beeping at me but would not tell me why, I had to go to the computer to find out the reason. Overall I am happy with this printer, it is perfect for my family and printing simple documents at an easy pace.

Very nice simple printer
The unit was easy to set up and install with the step by step instructions. I was concerned opening a bottle of ink and pouring, but my worry was unwarranted as it was easy to do with no mess. The printer does not have a tractor feed, and scanning or copying several documents at once will become tedious. My home office requires a more robust machine, but for a simple homeowner, this is it.

I generally have to get my son to come hook electronics up for me, however this was a piece of cake. Pull it out of the box with easy to remove handles and pour in the ink. It is quiet while printing. As a Realtor, i use my printer and scanner every day. This is going to be a time saver for me.

I upgraded from the HP Envy 6505e to the HP Smart Tank 5101. I Love It! It was so easy to set up with the instructions included with the packaging. All I had to do was fill the ink reservoirs, pop in the printer heads, plug in and go! So very easy! It's a quiet model, very quiet. My room is right next to the living room. My roommates tell me that they can not hear my printer any more when I'm busy printing in my room.

Pleasantly Quiet
As a teacher who designs classroom decor products, I was looking for a printer that wouldn't cost me an arm and a leg for ink. I go through a LOT.
Setting up the HP Smart Tank 5101 All-in-One Printer was a snap. Simply pour the ink into the reservoir (it has a non leak bottle that only dispenses once it is clicked into the right spot), snap in the printer heads, plug in, and go.
I was super impressed with the quality of the prints. It even allows for borderless printing.
The biggest surprise was how quiet it was while printing. I also currently have an Officejet 7740 (which I LOVE for printing large format posters), but it is very loud. The HP Smart Tank 5101 All-in-One Printer was so quiet while printing.
There were only a couple drawbacks:
-It does not print in larger paper sizes borderless. At least that I could figure out anyway. It will print legal sized, but not borderless which makes a difference for me when I am printing specialty items.
-The black ink bottle contains more than the reservoir can hold (extra is always good), but I was concerned about pulling it out of the upside position and getting ink everywhere.
-It does not hold a whole ream of paper in the input tray. I will have to refill the paper tray often when printing in bulk.
Obviously those small details aren't a deal-breaker.
Overall, this all-in-one printer will be super useful for printing so many classroom decor items. I will be interested to see how long the ink goes before needing replaced and I will update my testimonial at that time. So far, I'm very happy with it.

Disconnects from my app
I like the printer itself and it's functions. It's great to be able to print from my phone, though you have to convert documents to PDF for whatever reason. Scanning works great and the ink tanks last a long time. It disconnects from my app all the time, however. I often have to "forget" my set up printer and "find" it again.

Perfect For Home
I work from home and was looking for a second printer. I wanted one that was pretty basic for everyday use. I have been very pleased with this printer. I was extremely impressed with the quality of the items I printed. This would include envelopes, documents, and photos. The ink tanks make it very convenient to see how much ink is left for each color. The scanner is just as convenient. It picks up fine details of items scanned as well as scanning documents and copying items. I would definitely recommend this printer.

A little disappointing
THE HP Smart Tank 5102 All-in-One Printer has some great features and some disappointing features. I like for the set up on my gadgets/equipment to be relatively intuitive. This printer was about 50/50 with intuitive set up. When inserting the printheads, the printer did not work as the instructions said it would. I had to manually move the printhead carriage to insert the printheads. The machine is a little loud and sounds clunky. The printing is a little slow, but should suffice for home use. The colors are okay, perhaps could be a little more vivid. However, I love the idea of the ink tanks and that I don't have to change ink cartridges every two seconds. That is the saving grace of this machine. The other things I am not crazy about are aesthetic. This is a beautifully streamlined printer until you load the paper. Then you have an inch overlap of the paper holder on one side. That makes my OCD brain go nuts. Same on the paper catcher on the bottom. It isn't centered.
One the bright side, the ink loads very quickly. I look forward to seeing if this lasts as long as they say it will.

This printer has been great. It was easy to get setup using the tutorial in the app and took less than 5 minutes. The print quality is great both in black and white and color. The app is easy to use to print jobs from either my computer or my mobile device. It prints in great quality and is plenty fast.

This HP Smart Tank 5101 All-in-One Printer does not show as Chrome OS compatible. However, iPads and iPhones will be compatible.

Will this printer print on 300 # card stock?
The max media weight this unit is designed to handle for cardstock is 110lb while the 300gsm is closer to 140. It is not designed to work with that type of cardstock and have issues trying to print on it.
