By far the easiest printer to set up!
I replaced my old printer with the HP Smart Tank 5103 and I drug my feet a few days before I decided to set it up because I was dreading the set up process. Let me tell you it was the absolute easiest printer I have ever set up! I set it up through my computer and the directions were simple, step by step and included pictures with each step. It basically set itself up really. Totally hassle free. It prints out very vibrant colors and crisp lines in a very short time so that is another plus. I have printed out at least 30 pages of full color images and the ink tanks are still full. Besides being easy to set up its also very easy to use. Totally recommend this printer for anyone looking to replace your old printer or especially if this would be your first printer. HP set the bar high on this one!!

Upgraded printer/scanner
I decided to upgrade my current basic $50 printer to the HP Smart Tank 5103 color printer/scanner. The instructions for setting it up wirelessly were easy to understand. I did have some issues with getting it to communicate with my internet, but I had just changed my internet carrier the day before and I believe that is what caused the issue, not the printer. The print speed and quality are great. Love that you get photo paper and a good quantity of ink along with the printer. Size and look of printer are perfect - large enough to easily see the indicators on keypad but small enough to fit on most any desk. Sound while printing is average; not especially loud or quiet. I’m very glad I chose the Think Tank 5103 to upgrade to; it’s a great printer and a good value

HP makes an easy to use tank printer
First, the packaging: Open the box, lift out the included supplies box, and there is the printer. It is stored in the box in a bag with 2 handles on it, so you can easily lift the printer out of the box! Kudos, HP. I was surprised how quickly it put a smile on my face.
The included manual does handle manual setup, but I wanted to test out he smart app.
It found the printer almost immediately, and walked me step by step through each step of setting up my printer.
Getting it connected to my network was breeze, and took less than a minute.
Installing the ink in a tank printer was a whole new experience for me, very satisfying to see how much ink goes into the printer.
Quick and easy with no mess at all.
Printing from mobile devices is painless, I was able to remotely print from my office in another state to my house in one try.
It does print a little slow in color, but I am a causal printer, so I am not in a huge hurry.
Black prints are clear and bold and colors look natural and not overly saturated.
There is supposedly 2 years of ink included with the printer, I should be able to get more than that but only time will tell.
Overall, the setup was painless, and getting it connected to my wireless network was painless as well.
I should add that I already had an HP Smart account, but it took me longer to figure out my password than it did to set up this printer.
Build quality is what I would expect from this pricepoint, but it's sturdy enough without feeling heavy, and it takes up a relatively small footprint.
This is mostly because the paper feed is in the back, and there isn't a big output tray to account for.
My most painless inkjet printer experience in over 25 years of working with and on printers.

HP outdid themselves in a good way
HP is such a great brand to own. I know that I can always count on their products to live up to my expectations, to be durable, reliable, and dependable. Not to mention the great customer service that comes from the company themselves. HP, once again, didn't fail to meet my expectations with their brand new printer. The HP Smart Tank 5103e printer, is by far my favorite! You really can't go wrong with this product because it does everything possible. It gives you the option of scanning, copying, faxing, printing, etc. It also allows glossy photos to be printed as well.
The set-up and installation was easy to understand. The direction booklet was well written with pictures and step by step directions on what to do. It probably took me about 10 to 15 minutes to get the printer completely ready. This printer is unique in the fact that it takes 2 different kinds of inks. It has containers inside the printer that are filled with actual bottles of ink (Black, blue, pink, and yellow.) Those inks are used for when glossy photos are printed. It also takes black and multi colored ink cartridges for regular basic printing. I really appreciated the fact that the printer came with all the bottles of ink and Ink cartridges needed for a long time! It also came with 100 glossy photo papers for printing pictures.
The printer has wifi capabilities and has to be connected to wifi in order to work. That could be a downfall for some people that don't have access to the internet. It also doesn't come with actual printing paper. Paper has to be bought right away if anyone is wanting to experience the printers abilities. The printer connects to a mobile application that is downloaded to a phone called HPsmart. It allows you to print pictures from your phone, send and print emails, copy and fax stuff, print documents or papers, literally anything could be printed that is stored on a mobile device. I felt like that mobile application was a great addition to the printer and really helped to allow it to show its true capabilities. The papers and documents that I printed came out nicely. I surprised my mother by printing a bunch of photos of family and such to give to her in an album. They came out beautifully, with such vivid colors and looked wonderful on the glossy photo paper. She loved them! Overall, this is a great printer with so many uses. You can't go wrong with it and I would recommend this HP product!

TANKS ARE GREAT
So I had another brand that uses cartridges and this thing is so much better. No more buying cartridges every couple months. Now I can buy bottles for about the same price and last wayyy longer. Over all the printer is easy to set up with the HP app on my iPhone. Within about 10 minutes I was setup and printing photo. Does take a little longer due to filling the tanks and inserting the print heads. But over all a great and seamless experience. App works very well to print photos directly from my phone and my computer recognizes it right way on the home network. Definitely pick this tank style over Any cartridge printer.

I purchased the HP Smart Tank 5000 to replace and older HP OfficeJet Pro that had gotten old and worn. I also wanted to save money over the ink cartridges. I am quite happy with this printer. The print quality is great and its ability to handle heavier weight paper is very helpful.

Good home printer
The HP Smart tank was easy to put together so that's a plus. I like that the ink should last a long time and that I do not have to buy ink cartridges. I like that I can scan from the app and also print when I'm away from home. The only thing I do not like is that it is not the fastest printer but it gets the job done.

Great printer!
My wife got this for us and it's been nothing but reliable. It's always been a pain getting printers to connect and stay connected but this one has worked like a dream. Everything comes out exactly how you want it to as well. The ability to see how much ink is left is a pretty cool feature. I know everyone has had moments when they couldn't get something done because ghey had no clue they were almost out of ink.

Surprisingly high quality prints!
We've been using an older model ink jet multi-function printer in our home for quite some time, and we originally only wanted a laser printer to replace it... But we also wanted color which is not as easy to find in an affordable laser model. My husband suggested trying the HP Smart Tank 5101 All-in-One Printer. I was apprehensive due to the printer being an inkjet, but we gave it a shot. My goodness, the print quality on this MFP is fantastic. Way better than I expected, it uses hardly any ink and the paper doesn't warp with the ink printing like some other inkjet printers. The colors are vibrant and I love that I can view how low the ink is getting easily through the windows on the front of the printer. The prints are miles better than my last printer and I'll never look back!! Be careful, the ink refills are supposed to be leak-proof if they fall over, but my husband try to show off this feature to me by shaking an ink bottle upside down and got black ink everywhere 🤣

Affordable Ink
I got this smart tank printer to replace my previous HP model that was about 10 years old. Setup was straightforward, the instructions include pictures that are helpful. I was able to set up the wifi using the hp smart app on my phone. It was so easy. I love that it has the capability to scan and copy as well. Most of all, the ink is affordable and needs to be refilled far less often. The printer works wonderfully but it is the smart tank that sets this printer apart for me.

Great printer for photos, saves on ink
Had been using the printer for about a month and have to say, its an upgrade from the old printer. Prints are fast and clear with no blurry lines at the edges of the paper.
For the previous printer, had to enroll in a subscription for the ink, but this one no longer requires a subscription, which saves us money as we dont use printer occasionally for the minimum capacity of prints.
Being able to use the cloud printing is also a bonus and also the app works well to scan documents and track the printer ink levels.
Setup was a bit tricky as it took some effort to remove the holder inside the print head but after that had no issues.
Overall, this printer is a major upgrade and saves money as well as there is no linked subscription needed.

This printer surprised me!
From unboxing, to setup, to connecting to the WiFi, to printing, this printer surprised me on how easy it was to use. My desktop PC automatically detected the printer and installed the drivers. Printed first try without any issues. It doesn’t have native dual side printing but it does have the option by printing every other page and then you get visual instructions to feed those pages back in to print on the other side. It also seamlessly printed from my iPhone using AirPrint. Text is crisp and images are colorful. Not having to buy cartridges is a huge plus as well. I forgot how much of a benefit having a scanner was. I use that feature the most. Overall I’m really impressed with this printer and would definitely recommend it!

Easy setup and seamless wireless connection
Right out of the box it only took maybe 5 minutes to fully set up and be able to begin using. Filling the tank was super simple as you just place the bottle upside down on the appropriate color tank and push down a tad and it simply refills. Setting up the wireless connection was also very simple
Which it a plus for those not so technically savvy. It’s also a plus that it has refillable tanks rather than having to change cartridges all the time. All in all I’m happy with the printer and would recommended it.

Amazing PRINTER
I'm so happy I got this printer! I've been needing to update my office space, not just for me but for my home business, too. Setup is incredibly simple, mostly just removing cardboard pieces and tape, but every step was easy to follow along with in the setup instructions. In a few minutes, I was able to get started right away! From refilling to scanning high-quality sketches / drawings to printing bulk pages and files, this seems to be a winner! I really love how simple it is to see how much ink you have on the side of the machine and the ability to connect wirelessly makes this able to be placed virtually anywhere in my home without it feeling "anchored" to my studio desktop. If you need an inkjet that can print rich images on a budget, definitely look into this one! I'm pleased with everything | have printed so far and can't wait to print more impressive and larger scale projects soon.

I absolutely love this printer! Very easy setup. We do a lot of printing in my household so having to replace the ink every 2 years is just unbelievable. I also like that you can print from your phone and tablet. I will be purchasing one for my sister who is always printing for her job.

Great for Teachers
I'm a kindergarten teacher and have been using this printer for my classroom. Ink tank printers are the best because you don't have to worry so much about the expensive cartridges. I have to print a lot and it was getting expensive using cartridge printers. I was trying to find other ways to print, like sending to FedEx, but that wasn't convenient or cheap. This printer has saved me from trying to find alternatives. Right now it sits in our front room so I have easy access to it because I'm using it all the time. I definitely recommend this printer to everyone, but especially teachers!

I received this HP Smart Tank 5101 All-in-One Printer to review from Insiders and I have fallen in love with it! It is an upgrade from an older HP printer I had and was a nice surprise. Impressive Printer
I bought this new HP Smart Tank 5101 to replace my old ink jet printer. Impressed with how sleek this HP Smart Tank looks when I took it out of the box. It is not as heavy as my old printer. Note: It does not come with a disc to setup as my old printer did. I had to download the app on my mobile device. You will need to download the app on any device that you would like to print from.
I am not a very techy person. I started setting it up at 3pm and by 3:30pm, I was up and running. Printer connected to my wifi pretty easily. I’m super excited that I can now print from my mobile phone. How awesome is that?! I am now able to print from my phone from anywhere in my house (upstairs or downstairs). By the way, I drove across town for an errand. While in the parking lot, I sent a picture to my printer to print at home using the app. When I got home, it was waiting for me on the printer tray. Amazing! The color resolution of the pages I’ve printed so far has been vibrant, sharp, and clear. Quite impressive. This printer came with 4 ink bottles (different colors), a black and white printhead and a color printhead. When I filled the tanks with ink, there was still some ink leftover in the bottles. The ink provided is supposed to last for 2 years. If that is so, I would be so happy. Printer ink is very expensive and that is one of the reasons why I bought this printer: save money on ink. So far, I am pleased with my new HP Smart Tank 5101 printer and I highly recommend it.

Printing is fun
Printing from this printer is awesome. I love using of the app with my computer as well as my smartphone. How many pages I can printer without a worry of ink. It has 2 years ink and in color. My friend showed me this printer and how easy it us to copy, scan and print. The amount of paper I can printer and the document I can from my phone or computer. Easy to put the mess free ink.

Wonderful
This printer makes very nice crisp prints in both letters and pictures. It does scan, the tray is direct feed from the rear top of the printer making it nice if you make water slide decals or anything similar. Super easy to set up and install the software, print heads fill tanks etc. Once on your network it just powers down and waits for the next time you tell it to print. The printer appears to be a winner and now we just have to test it for long term reliability of print heads etc.

Refill bottle just make sense!
I enjoy the idea of being able to not only reduce waste from cartridges but actually see how much I'm using.
HP is quality in printing but refills can be quite costly and if you're like me you often wonder the amount of ink you are receiving in each cartridge. The Ink Tank let's me see the exact amount of ink we use and the lack of a wasteful cartridge and all of that plastic is refreshing to me. I feel like every bit we can reduce in plastic usage is phenomenal.
I'm using this in my home for light duty use at present. I'm not sure how it would hold up to daily office use ans volume but I wouldn't be afraid of trying it. It would be excellent to see how much it would save us both monetary and wast wise in the office to stich to ink tank printers.
I have enjoyed it thus far and would recommend if you're considering it to try it.

This printer was a fantastic upgrade to an old printer that I had for years! It’s super user friendly and easy to set up! I love seeing how much ink is left and when to know it needs a refill. The printing quality is great! The ink doesn’t smear, images come out crisp and it prints super quick. I would definitely recommend this to anyone that’s looking for a good quality user friendly printer

Perfect for the crafter
I was initially unsure if I would like the printer as the initial set up was difficult due to WiFi issues. Once resolved it was tremendously easy to use. I opted to not use the ink that was supplied with the printer and went with a sublimination ink. The ink levels are easy to see and the quality of the prints is top notch. I lve this printer so much I intend to replace my current everyday printer with a second HP Smart tank. The refilling of the ink is super easy and a no mess/low fuss process. I give this printer a thumbs up in overall satisfaction.

The best All-in-One printer so far!
I have been using HP Smart Tank All-in-One printer for 3 weeks now. Even though the initial set up was a little confusing I’m very pleased with its performance. The colors on the print outs look vibrant and I hope the ink will last for a while. The size of the printer is great for small spaces which was one of the reasons I purchased it. Switching from ink cartridges to bottled ink is definitely a game changer. These should last a long time!

I am super happy with this new printer me and my husband run a small business and we are loving this printer so far. We use it for estimate sheets daily and it comes out great each time and it never gets stuck. I’ve also created a vision board with it,I printed photos and they came out great. The ink seems to last we have yet to run out and I’ve used a lot. So if you’re in the market for a new one I would deff give this a try!

Thank you for your question! No, the HP Smart Tank 5000 All-in-One Printer does not use ink cartridges and is not eligible for Instant Ink as a result of this. However, the HP Smart Tank 5000 All-in-One Printer uses refillable ink tanks which gives the lowest cost per page of most any HP Printer. A typical HP black ink bottle has enough ink for up to 6,000 pages while the color ink bottles contain ink for up to 8,000 pages.

can you print 2 sided? duplex?
Thank you for your interest in the HP Smart Tank 5000. That unit does not have auto-duplex and would require you to manually do it. The HP Smart Tank 6001 model does have the auto-duplex feature for printing double sided.

If I am away from home, can I still print from my iPhone remotely? And if so, is there an app? Does this printer support 5.0Ghz wifi?
You can print with an iPhone outside of the network for this unit using the HP Smart Advance, which is a free upgrade to the free HP Smart app with this unit. It does not support 5.0GHz Wi-Fi, so you will want to make sure your router supports a 2.4GHz signal.
