Came with bogus serial number and touchpad which could not be configured
I would avoid HP at all costs. I got several versions of this laptop, older with an Intel Core i7 as well as this newer model with the Ulrta 7. I was unable to get ANY tech support due to HP not recognizing the serial number as valid.
I originally tried to get support because it is impossible to turn of the touchpad's "Tap" feature. When I am typing, my thumb occasionally hits the touchpad causing the cursor to move to wherever the mouse pointer is. There is an option to turn that feature off in Settings, but IT DOES NOT WORK! This happened on 4 different HP Envy 17" laptops.
I was unable to get tech support because I was asked for the serial number, which was invalid, even though the computer came directly from HP. I emailed several times and was told to expect a call from tech support which I never received. Finally, I spent over 3 hours on the phone, starting with customer service to address the issues The CS rep Kylie told me it would take a week to get the serial number updated. He also said that my warranty had 318 days left on it. This was a computer that I had received 3 days before. I asked him to correct it and he demanded that I email an "invoice," which I had never received, to document the purchase date. It was purchased from HP. THEY KNOW THE PURCHASE DATE! Finally, he accepted a screen shot of the order confirmation email and said the warranty would be updated within a week.
I then spent 90 minutes on the phone with a tech support agent who knew less than I do about troubleshooting, and eventually issued an RMA to return the computer.
I fully expect the next computer to have the same issues, and I will have to decide whether to live with them or buy a reliable brand.

Early verdict is positive
I had a Spectre but couldn't upgrade to Windows 11, so purchased this one. So far, so good in terms of performance. The only issue that I had was financing, but the computer itself so far has been fast enough, I like the extra screen size and while I haven't used it yet I bought extra TB so I shouldn't run out of space like I did with the Spectre.

The Good & the Not-so-Good
The HP Envy Laptop 17t-da000, 17.3 is sleek & easy to manage. I liked being able to customize some of the interior, such as increasing RAM to 32GB & upgrading Windows 11 to Professional.
One thing I didn't like was being forced to accept McAfee Anti-virus software, otherwise known as Russian spyware. I asked if they would just simply not install it, due to the time it would take me to clean the Registry after uninstalling it; they refused.
Another issue I had was this: I paid $150 extra to switch from Microsoft Office 365, a subscription-based suite, to Microsoft Student & Home 2021, a lifetime license. But when I got the laptop, only Office 365 was installed. No product key, no explanatory instructions, & no download links. I immediately uninstalled both McAfee & Office 365. Then I began trying to find an HP customer service phone number to call about the missing Office program. This was nearly impossible to do. The many different numbers popping up in Web searches are hacks that lead nowhere & are mainly ads for other-party office suites. I finally got an HP Resolutions number from the HP site I purchased my laptop from. After about a week of going back & forth, HP agreed to refund me $100, meaning I took a $50 loss & ordered Office directly from Microsoft instead.
A final comment about the laptop: it is extremely slow. It does boot up fairly fast, however, which is to be expected from its SSD hard-drive. I believe the problem is the Windows 11 Professional OEM installation. As both an MCP (Microsoft Certified Professional) & MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer), I'm thinking I have a few tricks up my sleeve to make the system run faster. I really dislike OEM software, though, because many developer tweeks won't always work on OEMs.

Nice laptop but not the best experience to start
This was a replacement for an HP that broke. The old laptop had 2 small hinges on the far side of the screen (each maybe 1/2" wide). One of those hinges broke behind the scree. So for the new one I made sure the hinge was a wide, almost the entire width. This new laptop is nice but not the best experience to start. First I needed to upgrade a few things like the hard drive size and RAM. There was no ability to upgrade the sound card. So after I ordered it, it was delayed (not including because I customized it) but it was built and shipped from China. That was not clear when I ordered it. It got "stuck" in customs for a couple days. I ordered it Jan 12 and it arrived Jan 28.
Also I may be naive but I don't understand in this stage of computers why the setup of a replacement computer can't be more streamlined and user friendly. I would think by now that you should be able to have the 2 laptops connected via a USB cable and have part of the setup process let you bring over programs, files, etc.

Best laptop for the money I've seen in a long time
Great machine. It runs pretty fast and the graphics look great on this screen. With my external monitor it is a little less saturated but I think its due to the age of the TV I'm using as a monitor no fault of the laptop. It boots really quick as well. I love the backlit keyboard as the color of the keys make it so easy to see even when not using the backlight. It is built tough yet light weight.

I replaced my older HP Envy Laptop purchased 9 1/2 years ago with this recent version. No comparison
The HP Envy Laptop 17, Windows 11 Home, 17.3" reaction time online is good. I agree with some of the reviews the power button is poorly placed, too close to the delete button. I have had to call three techs(incl. 2 HP techs) to solve the problem of losing wi-fi connection and having to shut down and restart the laptop each time to regain connection. I have only had the HP Envy two months.

New Computer
So far it seems like a good computer. Easy to install. However, the color is strange. I'm still trying how to fix the background color. I is currently a white with a heavy brown tint which is not easy to use. I do not understand why the standard color would be strange.

Happy with my purchase
I've been real happy with the performance and ease of setup of my HP Envy 17.3" Laptop so far. It has some upgraded features since my last HP laptop. The only one I have trouble with is the double screen feature, I sometimes bring it up when I don't mean too, but I like how the lighted keys dim when you aren't typing, to save on power.

Love it!
This is the second laptop I have purchased directly from HP. I talked to the gentleman that I purchased this laptop from and he recommended the one I bought as it was very easy to use and had exactly what I needed with no extras that I don’t use and didn’t want. He never tried to upsell me on things to make more profit and helped me to add the things I did want to add such as McAfee security.

Good computer but no service provided!
Like computer. However, I needed help with set up and called HP. I was unable to get any help. I was told about what I considered an expensive service I could purchase from HP to get assistance. To me assistance should be provided after purchasing a computer, monitor, keyboard and muse! I paid enough to have gotten service on this purchase!

Not Thrilled...
It's been about one month since I received my new HP laptop. I did research for months before deciding on this one. I was surprised that this laptop is smaller in size than the Acer 17" I had before. The screen is 17" so that's good. It just doesn't have as much space around the touchpad that I prefer, and my wrist cramps often as a result. The touchpad is not easy to use. I tried adjusting it to respond better but it still is not as easy as my Acer was. I've also noticed that I have to touch in the center of the pad specifically to get a response; this is the first laptop I've owned where the pad doesn't respond any place you touch it. The laptop has frozen at least half a dozen times and I cannot use any method (ie: cursor, Cntrl/Alt/Delete, Shift/ Alt/ Delete, Escape button) to bring up Task Manager to stop programs from running. I have no idea what's causing the freezing as I am not tech savvy. I ran Defrag and HP Support programs on all systems, and ran a security software check- all checks out fine with the Support systems. Needless to say, I feel very disappointed that I paid $1,000+ for this new machine and I am having these difficulties with it already. I am still unsure if I like it or not.

ENVY laptop 17"
1) This is my 5th HP laptop over the years. It was a black Friday order.
2) The box arrived directly shipped from China. It came on time.
3) There was hardly any documentation or guide
4) Setting up was more complicated: Windows was barely installed, and it did a lot of more installing before becoming ready to use.
5) The letters on the screen randomly would become vertically striped, then recover. Evidently the laptop was not checked before shipping. I am dealing with it to fix it.
6) The laptop came with bloatware. It took a while to clean.
7) The speed, the keyboard, and the screen are excellent.
8) Next time I will buy from a local store, tested and ready.

Excellent Photo & Video editing laptop
Love everything about this laptop, its fast, very fast, i mostly use this for editing photos and videos with some gaming on occasion and it has increased the speed of editing exponentially. The touch screen which i never had before has proven useful. The only thing i would add is a sd card slot, i have to use an external sd card reader which is a little bit of a inconvenience. i have really enjoyed that the laptop has plug ins for my phone cord and it also charges from either a usb or c type cord. highly recommend this for gaming or editing photo and videos.

Most problems went away with this purchase
My old HP laptop needed a new battery, was very slow and was falling apart, literally! Norton says it has broken registries, but won't fix that problem. This new one is better in all respects except Norton says it has broken registries. I do like the feature that recognizes my face to allow me in!

Maxiumum volume too low and audio sounds muffled, lacking highs
Overall it is a great laptop. The only thing I don't like about it is the audio is too quiet and sounds muffled, lacking high frequencies. If I plug in headphones or use a bluetooth speaker, it sounds fine but the built in audio is quite poor. My mom got an HP laptop 6 months ago and complained about the maximum volume is much less than her old Dell laptop so she always uses her bluetooth speaker. She is 90 so I thought it might be her age until I got my laptop. I'm only 63 and still have relatively good hearing. My HP laptop from 6 years ago had quite good sound volume and quality. I am very disappointed. The rest of the laptop is a significant improvement from my old HP laptop but not the audio.

Very Nice Laptop
Very nice laptop. My wife and I are in our seventies so a large screen is a must. I have seen reviewers mention the lack of setup instructions and that is definately of concern if you are not a little computer savey. The setup went well. The only difficulty I had was "activating" the extended warrantee. All in all, not a bad experience.

HP - Excellence Personified
The speed of the processor in moving about within the software is unlike anything we have experienced. The imagery is sharp and clear and the large screen is a pleasure. The keyboard is positive with a light touch. The new windows operating system will take some time to master but it is a vast improvement. HP’s customer service was very helpful in assisting a refund for software that we mistakenly bought. Overall we are extremely pleased with our purchase as have been with each of the prior HP notebook computers that we have owned.
