HP Brand New Comluter Is Dysfunctional
My brand new HP computer is not functioning. I contacted technical support for help with my issue and they told me that I will need to pay for a HP Smart Friend subscription, theit PAID support team, to fix what HP is calling a software issue. The comluter is lagging in chrome and so HP is refusing to take responsibility.

Opening the case is difficult
It is difficult to open the case. I needed to open it swap in an empty SSD to install a Linux OS while keeping the original SSD with Windows.

Lifelong satisfied customer.
After buying higher end HP Products for 20 years I have never been disappointed. While certain aspects of the numerous laptops were not always to my liking, purchasing them throughout the years I viewed the efforts to bring them up to date and make changes to accommodate users. Warranty issues were always addressed in a quick fashion which left me completely satisfied as well. I have yet to find a reason to go anywhere but HP for computer needs. My current purchase is no exception and it's always a joy to buy a new HP laptop.

Awesome HP Laptop 17"
I have used so many laptops between work and personal and had many HPs, so it is no surprise purchasing the 17" laptop would be awesome. Easy to set up. The operating system is smooth, and the screen is bright and clear. Nice.

the all-very-dark computer that was delivered to me looks nothing like the lighter silvery color that was/is pictured on here.

plug in should be on the left side of the computer.
Do not like the placement of the cord to plug computer in. It gets in my way, I am right-handed

Just The Laptop
As good as HP makes. HP just needs to add; some cables, mouse, a quick start up guide, less annoying start up page after page, . . . It's like buying a Cadillac and then the dealer asks you if you want floor mats for $30.00. Stop being so cheap

The HP Envy Laptop 17-cw1097nr is good, but has some inconveniences.
Mostly, I like my HP Envy Laptop 17-cw1097nr, but there are a few problems. There is only one Ctrl button. It is on the left, so I need to use two hands to use Ctrl+Home, which I use frequently. Also, the Function keys are secondary functions. I have to use Ctrl with them. They should be the primary functions of the function keys. If HP wants their new primary functions to be primary, then they should be separate keys, but activating them with the Ctrl would be OK. Next, there is no right-click button with the touch pad. I can left-click by double clicking the pad, but I need a mouse to right-click. I right-click all the time. Finally, the computer loses where I am when typing. Sometimes, it jumps to a spot earlier in my text or it goes to someplace outside my text area. While typing this, the focus jumped down to the Submit button. I also have problems with Windows 11, but that is Microsoft's fault.

I'm committed to the Envy laptops
I'm committed to the Envy laptops and this is my second one. I had the first one for about 8 years and it served me pretty well. I like the 17.3" laptop that's still thin and sleek. I like the big screen and the number pad. I modified the laptop to get a huge SSD and lots of RAM so that it will be speedy for years to come. I have been using mine for about a month now. The only things I've been sad about: (1) I didn't realize I opted for no touchscreen and that's taken getting used to, (2) the speakers could be a bit better on this edition, and (3) the camera quality could be better, too.

Good Box; Bad Set-up
Good hardware, plenty of memory and storage; too few USB ports; pitiful and offensive setup procedures.

Why I picked HP Envy laptop 17-cw1097nr.
My previous laptop was HP Spectre x360, but this time I chose HP Envy, I don't need touch screen, higher resolution with clear screen is more important. And also, I chose 32GB on board memory. That was very good for the smooth performance.
Keyboard is soft and good, but the speaker is not Bang & Olufsen speakers that HP Spectre had it.
But laptop speaker is small, I don't see any distinctive difference between old and current model.
Overall performance is very satisfactory. I used to run 20 Chrome browser taps and about same number of Bing browser, and I don't see any performance degradation. Same on MS office.

Not the best support
After a two and a half week wait for them to ‘customize’ my computer. I had 10 great days of use. I upgraded the screen to the 4k variant along with upgraded WiFi. I had practically no problems until it randomly shut down and refused to turn on. After finding HP support (with some difficulty) and speaking to a representative, they informed me that I needed to send it to a repair specialist across the country. They did give me the option to pay for expedited shipping which I refused. I received an email stating they received my computer and then support became non-existent for 12 days. I received one phone call asking if they could factory reset my computer, which I obliged. I am now still waiting for them to fix my computer however they have contacted me and set my new arrival date to two weeks away. I believe without expedited shipping.

Poor design
Not happy with the removal of the insert key and the second control key. The position of the power button is awkward. Not very fast to boot up Windows 11. Moving the PgUp and PgDn to the upper-right of the keyboard is also awkward.

My Favorite Laptop
I love my HP Envy laptop! I love the color; I love how the keyboard lights up whenever I use it and it's very fast. It has plenty of storage for all of my files and pictures and the camera is awesome. I take this laptop with me when I travel, and the battery life is wonderful.

Works, but freezes often.
It will do the tough jobs that my other laptops won't. Awesome display for a laptop. My low rating is because it freezes often and has to be hard reset. I should have returned it as soon as I noticed the issue, but like I said, it does the work that the others cant handle.

Nice graphics and good resolution.
The computer seems to work well, some quirks to get used to but if it lasts as long as expected it is a good value. The color is good. I tried to get the screen to stay on longer while plugged in but the power plan does not seem to make a difference. I will search for a fix in my spare time.

Time for an upgrade and this one is nice.
My HP envy is really nice. Like most things I would make a few changes. I'm not crazy about the power cord using a USB C Jack. My old HP power cord plugged into the back corner of the laptop and was out of the way. Some USB accessories can't be plugged in to the other Jack because the power cord is in the way. The power button is much more convenient than my old HP, I like that.
