Ineligible for Toner
The printer makes sharp, excellent quality prints. However, very disappointed that an important feature that made this printer stand out for us were two magazine reviews that claimed this printer model was eligible for the 'Instant Ink' toner program that would save on the relatively high toner usage costs for this printer vs. other similarly featured units.

Buggy and difficult to use
This was a very highly rated all-in-one, but I have had nothing but issues with it from day 1.
First issue - I thought this was meant to support printing photos, but apparently you need "laser jet" photo paper, which you can seemingly get in Letter size but not 4x6? I saw some people had success with inkjet 4x6 paper, but this did not work with this printer.
But the big one is so many of the functions don't work. Set up scan to email, worked for the first day, then just stopped. No idea why. It seems to have a lot of issues with outbound network connectivity, while inbound is fine (can still initiate printing and scanning from all my computers).
Which leads to the most frustrating issue - Scan to Computer just randomly working or not working. Half the time it just doesn't work. Tried to set up scan to Network Drive instead, but could not get it to connect to any of my specially set up network folders for it. Worked fine from other computers. Googled for a long time, lots of other people having the same issue. Completely stumped.
The error messages are completely useless too, and googling for info rarely brings any help. The printer announced that Scan to Computer had been disabled and could not be re-enabled. Why? No idea. I eventually did find a forum post saying remove PART of the HP software and it will work, and after much mucking around, this did seem to fix it. Why? Who knows! Although then I just tried to scan something and it's no longer working again.
The actual printing side seems good. But jeeze, what a mess. My old Canon all-in-one worked for many years without a hitch while this has been a nightmare from the beginning.

Great Printer
My only problem was getting the printer to accept Wi-Fi. Had to get someone that's computer smart to come in and get the printer to printing from the internet. She had to download some software to make that happen. Otherwise, the printer quality is great and fast! Love it!

RIP my spam filter.
The printer is fine. The number of marketing / advertising emails you guys sent , despite clicking the unsubscribe link for the first 5, yet they kept coming. So now HP is added to my spam filter. And now I’m getting nagged to tell others about my purchase with this, yet another, email from HP. Will seriously consider a different brand for my next printer purchase.

My order was entered wrong. Should’ve had Wi-Fi. The sales person on the phone did not pay attention to what I was asking for and discussed thoroughly which was having the Wi-Fi capability. The printer that I wanted was unavailable and this was supposed to be the replacement for it. But when they entered the order they didn’t add the model number with a W for Wi-Fi. I spent an hour and a half trying to figure out why I could not set up the wireless or find the menu option on the printer.

Support difficult to access
Our business has been trying to reach HP support for this printer. This apparently is not an easy option. Our new printer is set to default to double-sided copy options. We would like, simply, to change that copy function default to one-sided. I have had no luck finding a phone number or an online chat option to support that change. I've left messages with our sales rep to reach out to me. Nada. I've tried setting up an HP account for help. Nada. We have been HP advocates (over the recommendations of our tech experts) for the past 7 years. This is the first time HP has let me down. I am seriously rethinking my commitment to this brand.

not impressed
it replaced a 12 year old desk jet, that i paid about $300. the document feeder on the old disposable printer is far superior. the M479 can barely handle a hand full of sheets. it feeds crooked most times. scans are even worse, often will feed sheets to copy but the same sheets will not feed to scan. print quality is pretty good so far. wish i hadn't disposed of the old 8600 model. as a laser printer, i sure hope it performs, as it is double the price.

Scanner feeder does not work
This is the second printer (I exchanged the first one for the same problem), the scanner grabs too many pages and so you have to hand feed the documents to get the scan to work. It is very frustrating.

Very disapointed
I have always used HP printers and have had good luck with them. I am very disapointed with this one. The automatic feeder does not properly work 50% of the time and Iam unable to simply check ink levels on the machine.

It's quieter!
I owned the 232 for a while before upgrading to the 479. I find it to be noticeably quieter (wife says they sound the same). I was never able to find a dB rating in the specs anywhere. Overall It seems like a much better machine than the 232. No way I'll be close to the monthly usage rating but for the small price difference it's worth the quality upgrade.

Great printer
This is exactly what i needed. great printer copier and scanner. The HP app desktop and mobile makes it amazingly easy to do anything especially scan. The printer has had some issues where it “goes offline “ and had to call support who tried but couldn’t solve it. I restored my computer and that solved it
